You are stating the obvious. 21.6 AHI is in the title of my thread
You, however, are not stating the obvious about my surgeon. Because I do not feel like addressing why you are wrong, I will not.
8 responses, and only one from someone who has actually had the surgery....
Sigh... One doesn't need to hear from several people who've actually tried to jump off a skyscraper with no parachute to know that it's probably not going to end well if you choose to do that sort of thing...
To me, going straight to surgery for OSA without trying CPAP is a little like removing a finger when it gets infected, rather than taking antibiotics to see if that might solve the problem first.
Feel free to "go under the knife" with no second opinion. It's your life and you've been warned that this type of surgery has significant risk factors and is far from a sure-fire treatment as far as lowering AHI below 5.0..
You also indicate that you've already made up your mind when you stated, "straight for the knife I am going." I'm not even sure if you are serious here in wanting to get input from other UPPP patients. If you're doing to do it no matter what, then why are you asking whether other folks here have had the surgery done?
Please remember that Apnea Board is a discussion forum. One would think that if you want sincere opinions from those who have had the surgery, you should at least should be willing to share why you refuse to even try CPAP - at least in generic terms if you don't want to reveal personal information. It's seems quite convenient for you to refute what we're saying here by simply stating "I do not feel like addressing why you are wrong".
In your original post, you asked three separate questions, 1) has anyone else had surgery for OSA? and 2) Doc says rating is a 21.6, which, is that severe? and 3) Anyone bad effects just from a rating in the "moderate" level like mine?
So I'm not sure why you seem to be irritated at those who tried to help answer questions 2 and 3.
As for opinions on UPPP, you're probably not going to get a lot of pro-UPPP here, because most of us are currently using CPAP with good success. Better advice would come from a sleep specialist, as I suggested. But if you insist upon relying only upon one person's opinion (one who is likely biased in favor of surgery), that is your right.
I personally hope you will at least ask a sleep specialist about this, because I sincerely don't want to see you have irreversible damage done to your body.
That's all I can say here, I guess. Good luck.
