Question
AHIs
I've been using an ASV Bipap due to central apnea for the past 5 years.  I've been through 5 sleep therapists and 4 sleep labs and still having problems of reaching the 'target' AHI of 5.  I've noticed over the years that if I had mask air leaks that my summary reports show a more favorable AHI than when I don't have any mask leaks at all.  Does this sound possible ?  If I am having mask leaks I wouldn't be receiving proper 'therapy', correct ?

Thank you in advance.  - Dreamless

RE: AHIs
Welcome to the forum,

You really need to post your data.  Anyone on an ASV machine likely has complex or Central Apnea and to properly offer advice your daily charts are important.

Using SleepyHead
Data is the key to getting good feedback and the SleepyHead software is among the best PC applications to help examine the effectiveness of CPAP therapy. in the New to Apnea - helpful tips to ensure success link in my sig there is a section on Optimizing Therapy, Expand that and read the sections on Complex Apnea and Central Apnea.

Bonjour,

Thank you. I'll try to do that. I'm not very tech savvy ...

Dreamless,

Your data is a mess and it's clear that your settings are not yet optimal. I don't use an ASV, so I won't make suggestions on how to tweak the settings.

But you also write:

When mask leaks get to be both high enough and long enough, the machine can have trouble properly tracking your breathing. That means that it can "miss" events---in other words the probability that the machine does not properly score an event goes up once the leaks hit Large Leak range. And the longer and higher the leak is, the more likely it is that the machine will fail to detect events that happened.

RE: AHIs
Dreamless,
Your leak rate looks fine.  Now you can have small mask leaks that disrupt your sleep, but I don't see on the above graphs that your leak rate is an issue that would affect machines performance.

Agree that your pressure settings probably are not optimal, and need tweaking.  The AHI is way too high.

There are many ASV users here, so I'm sure you will get the correct advice.  Hang in there.
