RE: ResScan - [version 5.7]
From the ResMed website:
Quote:Upgrading from a previous version of ResScan
Please note that if an existing version of ResScan is being upgraded, the very first time ResScan is run after the upgrade, the ResScan application will access the original installation files and display progress information on configuration activities. If you happen to encounter any errors when running ResScan after an upgrade, please uninstall ResScan from the Control Panel and run the installation again.

And the question to those who have installed the new version is what differences are there in the new version such that there would be a compelling reason to upgrade?

RE: ResScan - [version 5.7]
It runs on Windows 10.
and really that is the only thing good I can say about it. The graphs are still just as difficult to work with and rescale/resize.
RE: ResScan - [version 5.7]
If there is really nothing wrong with my original version then maybe I'll just let it be. Sometimes if it ain't broke don't fix it is the best idea

As the former Chief Technologist of a computer company, I can tell you that most of the upgrades were not specifically to introduce new features, but to accommodate new computer capabilities and software code libraries, as well as to fix problems (bugs) in the program.
In the case of ResScan, I suspect that this might be the case as I do not see any major changes in functionality in the user interface that jump out at me. Considering that much of the original ResScan was coded using older technology, it is probably simply a code refresh with a few bug fixes. It would be so nice to have a change log, but given the secretive nature of ResScan, it does not appear to be a published document available to "hose-heads."

Sounds like the same kind of changes from 5.5 to 5.6 - none that could be detected to the user.

Looks the same to me.

ADDED INFO [Dec 1, 2016]: If you're having trouble using ResScan with Windows 10, please read
cbramsey's problem and solution below:

Solution:
(12-01-2016, 12:21 PM)cbramsey Wrote: Actually, I was able to beat the program into submission. What I did for Version 5.5 of the program was to right-click the desktop icon that is installed with the program and choose the "Troubleshoot compatibility" option. Windows gave me the option of "Windows 8" compatibility. This appears to work.

RE: ResScan - [version 5.7]
I just picked up a S8 vantage and have been trying to get the resscan softwarwe but somehow that link isn't working for me. But I have a question is this software going to give me more data with an S8 than I was getting with an old Remstar Auto using Encorebasic. That old Remstar was the style discontinued in 2007. See I am wondering it realy be worth it to download this software and spend $65 for the usb data transfer cable .
RE: ResScan - [version 5.7]
E.W. the real question is why are you attached to these outdated legacy machines? I have seen many new generation auto CPAPs on Craigslist for under $200, and a brand new Dreamstation auto with humidifier and heated hose can be had for under $400 on Amazon. Time for an update? Your money is better spent on the newer machine that will work without an obsolete card reader.
