I may be mistaken but I think the units made for North America will work in the US or CA. Unless they changed something with this newer technology.
If you have a friend/family in a different part of town bring your machine to their home and plug it in. See if it gets a signal.
I would contact the supplier you bought it from and see if they can offer any insight.
