Alcohol and AHI

RE: Alcohol and AHI
I don't drink often but I did go to a party a few weekends ago and drank more than i should have. Expecting to be fully hungover the next morning I was suprised that I actually felt great! I wonder if the cpap had anything to do with it? lol..

RE: Alcohol and AHI
My AHI numbers greater than 1.0 completely correlate to alcohol consumption.

I don't know... Don't drink much, but sometimes like a glass of wine after dinner. AHI doesn't seem affected by it. Still reads 1.5 or under.

I'm sure it did. It would make sense that more restorative sleep could help lessen the impact of a hangover.

I have lots of experience with this one! Yes, it can cause your AHI to be higher, but not always. There are many other factors involved. Mine would go up but not by much while I used the regular S9. But since switching to the autoset, it really stays pretty low. I'm guessing the autoset adjust better while the regular S9 stayed at a constant pressure. The graphs on SH somewhat confirms this. My pressure usually averages higher on those nights after I've had a couple of "cold drinks". And, yes I believe it helps the next morning too.

I had more wine than usual last night and my AHI is double than what it was the night before (before my trip). I only drink socially on the weekends and haven't had this much to drink (feeling a little hungover this morning) since I started my therapy almost 7 weeks ago.

Could it be the alcohol or the unfamiliar surroundings (or a combination of both) that could affect AHI?

Just curious.

I was especially interested in this as the first three weeks using my CPAP machine I was participating in a fast and I wondered how when, I return to my usual routine, my numbers would be affected. Like ManseHen has mentioned too it is weird talking about alcohol makes it seem like I'm overdoing it lol.

So anyway, in 33 days of CPAP my AHI has not gone over .08 with most nights being .03. Monday night my AHI was .08 - not sure why. Didn't sleep so well.

Yesterday - being Fat Tuesday and me giving up wine and beer as part of Lent I had a little celebration and drank 3 glasses of wine - which almost left the 750ml bottle empty. AHI for last night .03 Best sleep too - woke up feeling great.

I'll be travelling for the first time w/my machine in a couple of weeks (road trip - not flying; just going to visit the CT casino) and then following that throughout March and April - different weekend trips to Maine and NH. It will be interesting to note if the change in environment will have an effect on AHI.
