All you wanted to know about the ResMed Airsense 10

RE: All you wanted to know about the ResMed Airsense 10
Hi All,

Just joined and wish I had found this forum earlier! It has been so informative and the OP gave a really good review of the AirSense 10. So much so, I will be buying one to replace my old S8.
Anyway, some questions:
1) 1800cpap have quoted US$993 (incl freight) for A10. Are there any better deals elsewhere before I commit myself? Needs to be someone who can provide a receipt/invoice so I can claim rebate back from Bupa.
2) Am I able to use the same nasal mask with the A10 or is the fitting now different with this newer model?
3) In 3-4mths time I will need to provide my work doctor with the report from the Cpap machine. The doctor wont accept the report from the machine, so I need to take the machine in to a sleep or Cpap specialist so they can put the results on a letterhead paper. Does anyone know where I can get this done in Perth and cost?

Thanks again

Hi Rayz,

1. The prices are about the same among the various online sellers. At most the price differences are less than 2-3%. Before buying the A10, if you want to save some money, I suggest you register yourself with 3-4 online sellers which you have short listed. They frequently send discount codes ranging from 5-20% on promotion periods to their registered members through emails.

Another area of possible saving which is frequently overlooked is the air-courier companies used to send the product. I found out that there may be 20-30% difference in air courier cost charged by the different air courier companies. The one which is partnered with 1800CPAP is much cheaper and in my own case it only took them (FedEX) 5 days to deliver the A10 across the globe to me in Malaysia. I also bought an additional but smaller back-up APEX CPAP from another supplier - the air courier (UPS) costs 30% more (in spite that it is lighter than the A10) and it took them 13 days to reach me. This is one area which you may want to look into.

You may also join up with a few buyers in your own country to buy the products and share the air-courier charges. There are substantial savings when the air courier charges of your A10 on its own or bundled with a few shared face masks or accessories (ordered by B, C and D) are the same. It comes in one official receipt ...good for insurance claims too. Maybe we all should have a separate thread of sharing air courier charges by reference to countries, eh? I intend to buy a spare nasal pillow mask but the air-courier charges is deterring me from buying one so fast.

2. A10 has the same standardised measurement specification with the rest of the other CPAPs so fitting a different tubing or mask shouldn't be a problem.

Best of luck to you in buying your next CPAP!

I've bought the Airsense 10 from 1800CPAP as well... the customer service lady was being nice and gave me a coupon code: take10

Takes 10% off your order. Pretty neat I reckon. Used the FedEx option and only took them 5 days to arrive in Melbourne.

RE: All you wanted to know about the ResMed Airsense 10
Hi folks,

Just got the S10, and it is so quiet!

Anyone know what the latest software or firmware is for the S10? In the clinician mode, under "About", my unit lists version

SX567-0205

I noticed in the clinician manual (p.29) that
"The device has a software upgrade feature. When a software upgrade is in progress, the screen will flash for approximately 10 minutes. "

Is this for the firmware? How does this upgrade work?

Also, my unit lists a CX number. Anyone know what that refers to?

Thank you!

Thank you sharp56 for this great post. I am a new CPAP user and I just got my Airsense 10. It was set for me in another language (that I do speak) but wanted it in English, plus I had basic essentials set-up. I now have it in English and got the more info option going. Really appreciate it.

thank you

This is the software rev I'm on as of a week ago when I was starting to debug humidifier issues. The machine was new 2 weeks ago but I don't know the manufacturing date:

I've spent my 30+ year career working with embedded real time systems and this is just another one of those. I don't know how ResMed implemented it but over-the-air upgrades invariably have two (usually compressed) software images in FLASH. When the device upgrades, it overwrites the older copy and reboots. There is a separate partition in the FLASH with a boot loader that runs first and decides which of the two copies to load. If the new image fails an integrity test or won't boot, it reverts to the older image. This FLASH memory is soldered to the printed circuit board and has nothing to do with the FLASH on the SD card.

sharp56, great sharing there from a fellow Malaysian. I currently looking for APAP replacement for my faulty Respironic M Series APAP. The APAP was purchased from US <link removed> and have been using it since 2007. Treatment is fine, manage to get low AHI and found out I don't require humidifier, only when I travel I might need one.

This time around, I would like try Resmed. Currently S9 is still available for sale and of course the new Airsense 10. Is S9 going to obsolete soon ? Or should I get Airsense 10 ?

Is it possible to turn off humidifier for Airsense 10 ?

8 years is a reasonable life span for a cpap these days. In that time they do wear out from being plugged in 24/7 and operating 8 hours a day. Additionally the technology and algorithms are improved on.

From my personal viewpoint throwing out my 4 year old S9 and buying an Airsense 10 from Supplier #10, I recommend getting the airsense. It's the S9 with the annoying things fixed and it seems to be quieter.

According to the manual, you can turn the humidifier OFF, or 1 to 8.

Thanks lab rat for info. Due to budget constraint, I have already place an order for a used S9.

To sharp56, I try to reply your PM but it seems your PM inbox is disabled. Already place order, perhaps next time.

ResMed make a side panel which replaces the humidifier and makes the machine a bit narrower for travel. It has the necessary ports to channel the air to the tube. I have ordered one from the US but have yet to receive it.
