Anyone ever use a Fisher Paykel Pilairo mask?
#1
Question
Anyone ever use a Fisher Paykel Pilairo mask?
Been researching and kinda interested in the Fisher Paykel Pilairo mask. Apparently Fisher hasn't had the greatest reputation with masks, but this new one of theirs seems to have a pretty neat unique design. You insert the pillows onto your nose and then a bladder around the pillows inflates to hold in into place when you turn the machine on. So there are very minimal straps needed.

Anyone try it or use it? if so, what was your experience? Pros & Cons?

Thanks!

I LOVE my Pilairo Q Smile

Nice and soft, but you need to let it inflate before fitting.

The headgear is great, and really helps keep the pillows in place. With the ResMed P10, I was knocking the nose gear out regularly, not so with the Pilairo.

Note that I do NOT use the headgear in your pic, but the other alternate headgear for the Pilairo Q.

Apparently, the Pilairo Q is an upgrade over the original Pilairo. My comments are about the q, which I like.

Now I'm totally convinced, the Pilairo Q is gonna be the first mask I try!

I hope you like you Pilairo Q as much as I like mine! Still, you're likely to want something else as a change-of-pace to give your nostrils a bit of a break. I use the Respironics Wisp for that purpose, and find it quite comfortable as well.

Thanks Dave! I found a review of the wisp by the guy who runs that other CPAP forum - very nice! I like the quick release feature. If the Pilairo Q doesn't end up working for me as much as I hope, I'll give that one a try.

I am also looking for a full-face mask to have have as a backup for when I might have a cold or a bad allergy day. Anyone have any recommendations there?

I have a ResMed F10 for that duty, but I have not tried it yet. I also have nasty allergies, and you'll be surprised how much a pillows mask and some humidity help break up the congestion.

I've tried it, but found I got nose bleeding and pain from the pillows contact with my nose. It just might be a case of one size not fitting all.

I also found that cleaning the parts was much more difficult and time consuming than my main mask (Airfit P10).

Just my two cents.
The positives included a good seal (low unintended leak rate) and a very quiet exhalation port.

RE: Anyone ever use a Fisher Paykel Pilairo mask?
Ailu,

I am difficult to fit with a full face mask but I get along very well with Resmed Mirage Quattro and I get along OK with F&P Simplus mask. I have never had any skin irritation or sores from any mask that I have tried. My leakage with the Mirage Quattro is invariably very low to nonexistent. Another problem that I had previously with leakage is my therapeutic pressure, which is 20 cm H2O. I have to cinch the mask down pretty tight but once I get it adjusted, I just put it on and crank up the pressure.

The Mirage Quattro seems to be one of those love/hate pieces of equipment. Some people love it and some people hate it.

Best Regards,

PaytonA
