Anyone running ResScan in Windows on a Mac?
#1
Question
Anyone running ResScan in Windows on a Mac?
Hi, I hav a MacBook Pro Retina that has a built in SD card slot. I run Parallels to also run Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on my Mac. I've been using Sleepyhead on the Mac side with no issues, but would also like to explore ResScan. When I open windows and plug in the SD card, my Mac asks if I want the SD to be available to Mac OS X or Windows 7, or both, I choose Windows and launch ResScan. When I try to import the data it says that it can't find a device to import from.

When I installed ResScan I installed it without the three device drivers as recommended. But I'm thinking I need one of them for it to pick up the SD card.

I know this is kind of an oddball question, but if anyone has any tips, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

yes, i have run it on my iMac27. Parallels does NOT handle the built-in SD card reader (sometimes it might work but mostly not) so i use an inexpensive 10-in-1 USB card reader and it works 100% of the time.

Only way I've found of making either ResScan or Encore see the SD card from Windows running under Parallels on my Mac is to put the SD card into an external SD card reader and hook the SD card reader into one of the USB ports. Windows simply does not see the built in SD card slot.

I can't offer you any help on this other than to say I have 3 laptops in front of me at all times on this desk and 2 are MacBook Pro's and one a Samsung.....

On my Macs, for some reason I AM able to view t he SD Card but no other SD card will work on either Mac nor has done for about 1.5 years.
The odd time one can read but the rest of the time it acts as if it is locked, etc.

In any event, I only mention it because there are numerous, thousands, of posts all over the web about this problem that has developed with Macs.
Not just MacBooks but iMacs, and so on

Up until 2 years ago I never had any problem with SD cards and mine but it started, if i recall with the OS after Snow Leopard, whichever one that was now?

Apple seems to know all about it and isn't doing anything to fix it and i have seen many pretty brilliant attempts to fix it but a few here or there only seem to be able to get theirs working again but there doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason why.

You might want to do a Google search about SD cards not being read on Macs, etc..............its quite likely whatever the problem is has someone affected hrs as well.
Its the ONLY problem I have had with any of my macs.........but I have long given up using SD cards for music, etc....... ;-(

Windows through Parallels sees the built in card reader just fine, shows up as a removable drive. My Mac reads it brilliantly too. It's just ResScan that cannot find anything to import.

I use ResScan on several iMacs using either XP or Win 7. But I boot my Mac as a PC (hold option while booting and pick your Windows disk). It works just like on a PC. No card reader, just write lock the SD card and jam it in and import files. I am using 10.9 now, but this worked for several OS versions back. I did install the drivers for XP, but not for Win 7.

I'm not using bootcamp, I'm using Parallels, I.e. Running Windows inside a program on Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks). I'm not sure why locking the SD card matters, but I'll try that. Windows 7 sees and mounts the SD card and I can use explorer to see files, but ResScan doesn't seem to think there's anyplace to import from. I think I probably need to install the device drivers.

Here is the reason it gives in Sleepyhead: Admittedly I have not done this but I am new to the game so not the one to ask

It pays to write-protect your SD card with the plastic tab before inserting into your Mac.
The reason is OSX tries to write an index file/thumbnail cache (.DS_Store) without asking. This can totally screw up the SD cards file tables, as some CPAP machines don't fully implement the Fat16/32 disk standards.
Remember to unlock it afterwards. (Your CPAP machine should warn you if you forget)
