RE: How likely is treatment-emergent central sleep apnea?
I'm neither a doctor or a data analyst, so I don't have definitive numbers. However, I would say most will get some amount of treatment emergent Centrals at the beginning of CPAP therapy. It's nothing more than Central Apnea caused by higher efficient breathing than prior without, due to Apnea knocking down your CO2 exhale efficiency.
The variables are how many TE-CA events are there, how well do the TE-CA respond to avoidance maneuvers on the PAP settings, and how long they remain. Each person is different, so these are totally variable.

According to this article complex sleep apnea is found in 5 to 15% of patients https://www.uptodate.com/contents/treatm...leep-apnea

RE: How likely is treatment-emergent central sleep apnea?
My understanding is that complex apnea is when a person has both types of apnea (central and obstructive) caused by two separate things. The treatment emergent CA happens to some extent to the remaining 85-95% that do not have complex or central apnea.
My own experience is it took several weeks to subside. See the magenta bars in the below chart. QAL

Your question is a good one. I'd be curious to know why you ask. Are you experiencing a lot of central apnea events? Are you about to start PAP and feeling worried about CAs?
