Australians Not Well Served for CPAP

yeah my Auto 10 was built in Singapore

built in Singapore----> shipped to US----->shipped to Australia = AUD$1400 (30,000 km trip)
built in Singapore----> shipped to Australia = AUD$2000+ (6,000 km trip)

I have a US itunes and Australian account, same music is about 20% cheaper from US account with current exchange rates.

on the plus side, my overnight sleep study was around $800, of which medicare paid $500. I've read they are a lot more elsewhere.

My overnight sleep study was $450 for the first one and the second one, to confirm settings, was $250. I complained loudly about the price and bingo a discount of $200. Because sleep apnea is the new "black" in health, the industry seems to think that it is a money making exercise. Speak up, loudly, and watch the difference in attitude. And take your concerns to the relevant consumer department in your state and the Therapeutic Goods Administration in Australia. The more complaints the better it may get for the consumer/patient.

My two sleep studies were bulk billed. Can't see why yours weren't.

Well, I need my glasses, so I'm not complaining on that score. However, I find it annoying that some health funds will pay more for homeopathy(!) than they will for CPAP.

No different in the US. Insurance will pay more for drug abuse therapy and self inflicted issues than they would for Cpap use.

Hope no one takes offense to the above, I'm not referring to folk who are hooked on pain meds.

I can only get one pair of glasses every 24 months. Mine don't last that long.

Could not agree more, also goes for so many things here under our socialised healthcare system. A discussion to steer well clear of in this country if you want to keep away from conflict of one form or another.

Must say this thread has been very interesting in comparing assorted healthcare systems and payment schemes in assorted locations.



Oh, glasses we pay for, dental, health service dentists are like hens teeth, though you still pay, many go private.

I did get a Medicare rebate on them. I was just mentioning the price and what happened when I complained about the cost.
