editing does not allow me to replace attachments apparently

You have to use the Full Edit option to have access to the attachment option. It will then be located at the very bottom of the page.

I did use the full edit option, and I did upload a new image, but after I pressed the post button the attachment was gone  Sad

You didn't select the Insert into Post, adjacent to the file or image you wanted to insert.  Each file has to be inserted after being uploaded.

I did not. But in general I never did. My attachments have always showed up as attachments at the bottom of the page. Anyway, now I know and I won't make the same mistake again. Thanks.
