Brooklyn Nine Nine Pappers
#1
Yay! Brooklyn Nine Nine featured a PRS CPAP and gave a positive mention of SA treatment. Okay, they gave it to Charles, who is a bit of a schlamazl, but still, they said it did a positive job and helped sleepers.

Big thanks to Fremulon and Dr. Gloor (not a doctor. Shhhh!)!

Neither - it's Yiddish for "born loser".

Two types of people - schlemiels and schlamazls - the schlemiel goes through life spilling soup - the schlamazl is one he spills it on, through all his life. The words are German, co-opted by the Yiddish language, however perfectly understandable to anyone outside of Hannover (NOT a high German word - the Swiss and Bayern, as well as the Koelsch use the terms also....) - from my understanding, these terms are in common use in the US. Certainly I have heard them often on American tv shows....

schlamazl actually come from a German word meaning, more or less, a total mess.....

Ah, thanks Doc - one of life's TV mysteries has now been solved for me... this explains what Laverne & Shirley are singing in the show opening:

Super Sleeper,

My thoughts exactly!!

Doc Wills,

That is the only American TV show that I ever remember hearing those words on, but, of course, one heard them at the beginning of every episode.

Best Regards,

PaytonA

Always glad to help. German is not a lovely language, even when beautifully spoken, but it is descriptive. Us Swiss find German German to be rather flat and ugly - we have a more musical language and far more hearty. The Germans consider us yokels. You don't want to know what we consider them to be.....
