[CPAP] 4 years later

Hi All,

I've been using a CPAP nearly everyday for the last 4 years.

During my sleep tests in the lab, my AHI was from memory 39 and now its around 0.4.

My specialist said that I would be jumping off the walls within weeks.

Yet, 4 years later I still struggle to wake up, still feel tired during the day, still lack energy and will still fall asleep during the day if I wanted to.

I get between 7-9 hours of sleep every night.

Anybody experience anything like this and found something that helped?

there is other stuff going down besides apnea. you need a sleep specialist.

For auto-cpap, from machine data or software. You can set the min pressure 1 or 2cm below 95%. Or clinicians commonly use the maximum or 95% pressure for fixed pressure CPAP, this can also be used for min pressure.

Download Sleepyhead software (see the top menu bar for this), make three more posts and post some of the Sleepyhead data so we can see what is going on. While AHI is a good indicator of what's happening, what your body tells you is the most important one.

OK I'll download the software and post the data.

What exactly would you be looking for?

Do you mean I need a second opinion or is a sleep specialist different?

AHI is only one barometer of your therapy.  The respiratory disturbance index (RDI) — or respiratory distress Index — is a formula used in reporting polysomnography (sleep study) findings. Like the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), it reports on respiratory events during sleep, but unlike the AHI, it also includes respiratory-effort related arousals (RERAs).  Not sure if your S9 reports RERAs, the newer A10 does.  In addition, Sleepyhead allows you to flag and follow sleep disturbances that do not quite qualify for RERAs or OAs or hypops or CAs because of 1 or more factors missing - usually not enough flow limitation or insufficient time of distress, i.e. less than 10 seconds.  So, if your RDI is much higher than your AHI that would be an indicator that some pressure adjustments may be in order,  Same conclusion if your User Flagged events in Sleepyhead (UF1 and 2 if you set them) are unusually high.

Post some data and members can help you.  A sleep specialist can't hurt either.

Consider adding a oxygen meter to track your SP02 and pulse through the night.  Mine tells me a lot when added to Sleephead reports.
