[CPAP] Advice and info needed
#11
RE: Advice and info needed
I have been doing a lot of research today. The Resmed Airsense 10 autoset is, in fact, much cheaper on Amazon than anywhere else. (Just over $500). But the seller seems sketchy (Evasive in questions. I asked if the machines are used or refurbished. They immediately deleted my question). Does anyone have any experience with them? I called Amazon, and they said that they stand behind all of their sellers. Would it be better to get something on ebay? Any leads?

While I've not used Amazon to get any CPAP devices or equipment, they've been good for others from what I hear. My opinion on the seller you've tried, if I were you, I'd probably look elsewhere on Amazon than that one. Again that's what I'd do. Best wishes on success.

There are four sellers on Amazon offering them for under $600, look for "Other Sellers on Amazon" at the far right side of the product page. I have not dealt with any of them but one has 100% positive feedback, another 98%, so you may look into one (or both) of them to see if they seem more "legit".

Jeffery, welcome to the forum.

You are in good hands here.

Should you purchase a new machine, it would probably be wise to get a low capacity (1-2 gig) standard SD card (as recent ResMed machines have shipped without them). You will also need an SD card reader (that plugs into a USB port) if your computer doesn't have an SD card slot built in.

Both these items are very inexpensive--but necessary--and will allow you to use Sleepyhead software.

By posting your Sleepyhead data you will get help customizing your machine and get any alerts if necessary. Without data, we'd be guessing.

Best wishes,

Bill

We have had many members purchase machines through Amazon and have been very satisfied with the purchase. The current "deal" on Amazon seems to be The Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset For Her at $525 through MedGuru. The listing is "AirSense S10 For Her with Heated Humidifier". These are new machines with carry case, humidifier and a heated hose is $30 extra.

I'm sorry you went through so much trouble, and you really should just use your primary care doctor and let him manage your CPAP use. You have been using it longer than most of us, and your need for this device is more than clear. Forcing you to do a lab study is pure torture. I saved my original sleep study from 2008 and it has remained valid ever since. I was never sent back for a titration study because I did not tolerate the clinical sleep test environment. I'm sure if you discussed your needs with your PCP, and asked that doctor to manage your care, you could simply produce reports that demonstrate the use and efficacy of the treatment during your annual exam. This would keep you away from the mafia that call themselves sleep specialists.

I am glad to hear that people are happy with the medguru/amazon purchase. Thank you for the help! Sadly, my primary is afraid to touch the entire subject for fear of insurance problems. My previous primary wouldn't even give me a prescription for a new mask for the same reason. (I get my prescriptions from my dentist!)

RE: Advice and info needed
That's too bad about your regular doctor. I still think you can shop specialists and find someone that supports a knowledgeable and involved patient. I'm sure they are out there, and you live in a region rich in medical resources. Nothing wrong with using a dentist, but if you spent a day calling around, I bet you could find a good fit with a more progressive specialists that would do titrations without subjecting you to a dry diagnostic. As a CPAP user for 16 years, you simply don't tolerate that, and you need to clearly specify that is your prime criteria for physician selection. Just call until you get someone that says, "Of course! We can do that!"
