CPAP Hours on machine

CPAP Hours on machine
I was given a Resperonics Cpap with 9000 hours on it. Can I expect
this thing to go a while longer or is it at the projected end of the unit?
It still seems to function fine. I used it the last couple nights without
issue. I was going to use it for a backup/travel machine. How many hours do these things last on average?

RE: CPAP Hours on machine
The usual insurance approved replacement schedule for the machine itself is typically about 5 years. Although many people have no trouble using a CPAP far longer than the 5 year replacement cycle.

If we "guesstimate" that an average person sleeps roughly 7.5 hours per night, then the expected 5-year life span for a CPAP would be:

7.5 * 365 * 5 = 13687.5 hours.

As a back up unit this machine ought to be fine. You might want to have it checked out by a DME to make sure that it is blowing at an accurate pressure level however.

From second wind cpap (they sell used machines)
How long will my CPAP last?
The average life expectancy of a CPAP or BIPAP machine is approximately 20,000 hours, or roughly 7-8 years full time use. That said, many times, if properly cared for, these devices will last much longer. Many properly maintained machines will last upwards of 50,000 hours.

Thanks Y'all. I'll use this machine for a couple weeks. If it doesn't
incur problems it will be my travel/backup. I'm leery of taking my
S9 out of the house.

Yeah, as a back-up, it should be fine. You can make a manometer or buy one or take it to a friendly DME to make sure it is putting out what it says it is. Change out all the filters and hoses. Good to go.
