back to cpap
I was a cpap user over 6 years ago. I lost a lot of weight and became a marathon runner. I had a sleep study and was told I didn't need the mask anymore. From running I developed Atrial Fibrillation and I had the surgery to fix it. That ended my running. I put some weight back on and I was told by my wife that my apnea seems to be back. I took my machine out resmed s8 and used it for a night. Seemed easier to use than 6 years ago??? I have been using it every night for two weeks. I have asked my doctor to refer me to a sleep doctor so I can get new masks on insurance.

My pressure is 8cfm and I am surprised that it doesn't bother me like it used to.

Welcome

Did they do an ablation for the A-fib? Just curious...

S8 is two generations old now. I would wager that your sleep doc will insist on a new sleep study. I would hope you could upgrade to a new generation machine.

FYI Pressure for CPAP is measured in units of cm-H2O (centimeters of water.)

Hi JustMongo,

Yes I had a cryoablation. It was an easy surgery to go through. I hope I get a new machine, a sleep study I expect that I will need it.

Bryan, if you "feel" you benefit from CPAP, then getting a new one should be no problem. Try working with your primary physician to explain your symptoms and why you think you need CPAP, and see if he will prescribe for an auto-CPAP that will help you self-titrate and provide feedback data. You had a a previous sleep study, and your discussion may suffice for determining medical necessity for insurance purposes.

Alternatively, your doctor can prescribe a home sleep study. It will verify the presence of sleep apnea, and is usually much less expensive and intrusive than a full clinical polysomnograpy. Again, you would be prescribed and Auto CPAP for self-titration.

This is not a very difficult thing to get right. Work with your doc, and if possible, avoid specialists.
