RE: CPAP Machine
The official answer is: Yes, a CPAP machine requires a prescription to purchase. No it is not illegal to program it yourself.
Using FlashAir W-03 SD card in machine. You can download your data through wifi with FlashPAP or Sleep Master utilities.

I wanted to learn Binary so I enrolled in Binary 101. I seemed to have missed the first four courses. Big Grinnie

Stick it to the man, Download OSCAR and take back control of your data!

Thanks Ian. Like I didn't have enough Honey-Do projects to tackle. Mornincoffee

RE: CPAP Machine
Well, technically it may be illegal to sell a prescription device online. Buying it seems not to be a problem.

Both of my machines were acquired used from private sellers. Who cares?

It depends on which country you are in. Since you used a British spelling for program, I'll ask where are you located?

In the US, a prescription is required to buy a CPAP.

RE: CPAP Machine
Never mind about legal or not, if you suspect it ... get diagnosed
You would not take heart medication, if you do not have a heart condition
The same goes to CPAP, you do want CPAP if you do not have OSA

There're all sort of machines to treat different conditions
No shortcuts, buying the wrong the machine can be costly
$600 for a sleep study is not a lot and can be a life changer

Talk to your doctor, home sleep study can be a cheaper alternative to sleep lab

Best of luck and welcome aboard

RE: CPAP Machine
Patma, To answer your specific question without giving any further advice, there is nothing illegal about buying a cpap machine from a private party (unless it is stolen). There is nothing illegal about setting it up yourself. They are bought and sold on Craig's list all the time and many people adjust their setting on their own. In the U.S., if a choose to buy one from a company that sells them as a business, they can only sell to persons that supply a prescription from a licensed doctor. It need not be any special kind of doctor since G.P. is qualified.

RE: CPAP Machine
SurferDude2 has your route: If you can convince your general practitioner doctor to write you a prescription you can buy a new machine from a reputable supplier. They may be (rightly) hesitant to write one without a sleep study though.

If you're going to get one without a study you're going to be hard pressed to get it set up properly and you may have medical issues that won't be properly diagnosed (CSA, Low O2 Saturation, etc).
