Machine choices: http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.php...ne_Choices

Don't settle for the first mask they give you. That machine and it's effort to determine the best pressure is useless if the mask doesn't fit, it keeps you awake because you are uncomfortable, and/or it leaks. If you don't breathe through your mouth at night, nasal pillows are the way to go. Nasal masks would work as well if for some reason you cannot tolerate the pillows. If you breathe through your mouth at night, you can still use the pillows or nasal mask but will have to have a chin strap. Or you can use a Full Face Mask.

Once you get the titration done (that's what the two weeks are for), see if you can talk the doc into writing the script for an autoPAP. They're the best option because they are two machines in one. You can set it to "straight" CPAP at a single pressure or you can set it to a min and max pressure range and let it adjust as you sleep. Because of your hypopneas, I would bet an autoPAP would work well for you.

Tongue Suck Technique for prevention of mouth breathing:
  • Place your tongue behind your front teeth on the roof of your mouth
  • let your tongue fill the space between the upper molars
  • gently suck to form a light vacuum

Practising during the day can help you to keep it at night
