[CPAP] Resmed S9 airflow issue
#1
Resmed S9 airflow issue
I've been using an S9 Autoset with full mask for a few years now, but recently I've experienced an airflow issue, usually shortly after putting the mask on, where I can hear the airflow louder than usual, and there's a cyclical kind of "fwup" sound. I can get it to stop if I turn off the air and then back on (not totally powering down the S9, but just a quick press of the button that takes it off and then back on "yellow" mode).

Any ideas what might be causing that? I bought the machine secondhand a few years ago, maybe it's showing its age?

Also: there's no way to update firmware on these, right?

You are correct. There is no firmware update for the S9. How many hours are on your S9? It could be hitting its end-of-life.

Thanks. How do I check hours?

Try pressing the "i" button twice, until the sleep quality screen appears.
Then, simultaneously press and hold that button and the double-check button
until the screen flickers and a wrench appears in the lower left box.
Then turn the right knob one click to the right and press the middle of it once.
Then turn the same button until it stops.
The next to last line will show "run hrs".

Ah, thanks. 6578 total hours.

That's a young machine. My Aircurve 10 Vauto is at over 16,600 hours.

Happy birthday to my machine. 5 years today.

Is the sound coming from the mask area? It may be the anti-asphyxiation flaps closing or having trouble closing if your mask has them.

Yes, definitely coming from the mask area...hmm, I'll take a look, I wasn't aware of those flaps...

RE: Resmed S9 airflow issue
I'm not sure if they are on your mask or not. But the ResMed masks have them in the elbow. I can hear them slap shut when I first turn my machine on. Two little flaps on either side of the elbow, the pressure from the machine keeps them open during use. If the machine turns off unexpectedly during the night the flaps open so you can breath.
