[CPAP] SleepyHead Results Interpretation

Hello, I started using for the first time 3 days ago an APAP machine as part of a test for my sleep apnea and downloaded it to SleepyHead software to view the following results, but I'm confused about what all this means and what would be the normal result for each of these indexes for someone without sleep apnea to be able to compare and understand where I stand.

YOU are doing great to be 100% compliant. Stay with that. Remain DETERMINED TO ALWAYS wear the mask.

You AHI isn't terrible, but it isn't yet quite to the "treated" range of UNDER 5.

Your leaks are great -- that is the main thing for YOU as new user to get correct in addition to just WEARING THE MASK which you are also doing.

Likely you have a followup sleep doc appointment (or will have one) in the next 2-6 weeks.

If you numbers remain as is then likely the doc will change your pressure range to something like 10-16.

BTW, your numbers for max pressure don't jibe with what is in your profile showing to the left of your post 5.5 to 13 with an actual max of 15.6

3 days is to soon to be sure if these are stable numbers though.

I started my APAP therapy on May 6 with the nasal mask and a baseline start pressure of 5.5 then on May 13 after a follow up meeting changed the baseline pressure to 7 and started using the latest ResMed small intranasal mask which I liked much better for the fact that is much simpler, lighter and with less straps...

Unfortunately after few nights I started having problems with irritations in my nose and very bad headaches when I wake up in the morning. On May 26 after another follow up meeting we raised the baseline pressure to 12 and started using an extra small ResMed intranasal mask and a heated tube set at 2 and for the last 2 nights I slept better and woke up without headaches and I hope it continues to get better like this.

I'm still concerned with the mask leaks and I would appreciate it if you could help me understand the meaning of the statistics below and the acceptable number for each of these indexes/numbers so I can understand better my progress, such as the acceptable number for leak rate/leak and other indexes?

Please find attached a file of all my results since I started the therapy. I appreciate any feedback you have on the results and the equipment I'm using and any recommendations you have.

You have too many changes all at once and don't have any way to tell what made things better/worse.

The extra humidity is almost certainly helping, but you might want to try your old "small" mask again and see if it still bothers you, now that you have a different pressure setting and more moisture. You might find that it irritates you less now.

Also, you only need to tighten the straps "just enough" to keep it from leaking. It's not like installing lug nuts on a tire. "Too tight" just distorts the silicone and your face, and makes it seal worse, not better, as well as hurting if it's way too tight.

(Same thing with SCUBA masks in case anybody is wondering. 8-) )

Welcome to the forum jmoola. Acceptable AHI should be under 5. When determining diagnosis for sleep apnea, AHI 5-15 is mild, 15-30 is moderate, and above 30 is severe. Your goal should be to have AHI under 5. Leaks should be under 24L/min.
