[CPAP] Two masks different AHI
#1
Two masks different AHI
On a Resmed Airsence 10, my 87yo mom is evaluating two masks. The masks are Resmed Mirage Liberty and the Resmed P10. Leak and pressure are virtually the same for both masks. All settings are the same except for type of mask. The ramp is auto. The Pressure Relief is always on at level 3. The min pressure is 4.4 and the maximum pressure is 7.8 (she revolts ant any pressure higher). The AHI with the P10 is 3. The AHI for the Liberty is 12. Does anyone have a possible explaination for the difference in AHI between the masks? Going to look at the data in Sleepyhead for the first time tonight. Is there anything to look for that may explain the difference?

Thanks

RE: Two masks different AHI
I assume the data is from several nights for each mask. Otherwise, there is a lot of fluctuation that could account for just lucky (or unlucky) coincidence.

Look for leakage data differences between the two. If more leakage noted for the P10, this could be caused by escaping pressure through the mouth. That is my guess, and that, in general, the sleep is not as sound with this more severe leakage. Deeper sleep results in more relaxed muscles and more floppy soft tissue, leading to a higher AHI those nights with the Liberty, but also probably more rested or satisfied feeling.

Yes, if it is just a single night each, data is rather useless. If it is average, then we can help.

It could be the Liberty does not fit her as well and isn't providing the pressure she needs. The nasal pillows of the Liberty are not as well fitting as the P10.

Is there a setting on the machine for telling it what kind of mask the user is wearing? If so, make sure it is set to the correct mask. I am unsure as to what the Liberty would be, but probably a FFM due to the mouth covering.
