95% or "LESS"

95% or "LESS"
When looking at the columns in OSCAR data the 95% column seems to catch my attention.  The problem is the description includes that value or LESS.  Just like seeing a price of $9.99 at the store, people gravitate to buying it for less than $10 based on that first number.  Likewise the 95% seems to to be the defining value, as in that is what is happening 95% of the time.

However there is an interesting chart in OSCAR that really puts 95% into a visual perspective; it is Time at Pressure.  I tend to use this chart to scroll along and quickly find the pressure at different events, however, you can also find the 95th percent pressure and see exactly how much time is spent there.

What I have found that over a 7-8 hour span my 95% pressure value represents only a few minutes.  It's the "LESS" where all the time is really spent.

I'm sure most people already know this, but I thought this was a nice visual.

RE: 95% or "LESS"
The values, like 95%, are percentiles and not percentages. The 95%-tile means that you were at or below that value 95% of your sleep session time. Likewise, Med stands for Median or 50%-tile. The Max was changed awhile back to actually display the 99-percentile and not the actual maximum value. This was done in an attempt to exclude any artifacts. An artifact is any invalid point of data that was recorded.

Also, If you hover your mouse pointer over a Channel label, on the far left, a "hint box" will pop up, listing the average of this channel.

I hope this helps.
