CPAP modems and remote changes to your settings without your knowledge

RE: CPAP modems and remote changes to your settings without your knowledge
DreamStation was the only option with the DME.  It was a royal pain dealing with this DME too, it took them nearly 2 months to get my CPAP to me, all the time going back-and-forth with the sleep center, claiming they needed further paperwork or whatever, chasing each other during that time, each blaming the other.

In any case, I have an auto-CPAP now, which is fine.

Plus, at least the DreamStations have removable modems - the ResMed modems are built-in.

Nope.  Eventhough at first the doc agreed that adjusting my own pressure was fine, now he requires me to make an appointment in order to get a new script (so the automatic pressure updates done over the modem won't default back to 4-20) (next opening is 6 weeks).

I'm leaning on pulling the modem out and putting it back in every so often just to get the data uploaded to their "cloud", and then re-entering my own setup pressures if that upload caused their system to reset to the script pressures.  Then when compliance period is over, I can pull it out permanently.

I just was wondering if there would be any down-side to pulling the modem out?  Or would pulling it out somehow goof up their communications settings for the modem?

Do you use a specialist to manage your sleep apnea? Stop that! Transfer the care to your primary care physician. There is no reason to be under the care of a specialist when you are the specialist, assuming you have a cooperative PCP that trusts your judgement. You appear to be jumping through hoops that are mostly required when you don't know the system. I know you do understand the medical system and should be able to simplify your care and scrub out this inane interference.

Edited to add: No wonder you get so cranky.

Phillips brings all the boys (and girls) to the yard, and our milkshake is better than yours. I respect the fact that you know you have failed though! And that you're willing and able to admit it!

I agree with your statement though, these people really do get on my nerves with their every time you need the simplest of things to "make an appointment". It's like excuse me, I don't work there, and I have better things to do just "because" you want to see me (again).

Just in case you decide to use a SD card instead of the modem for the DME. I know where you can find a link to ResScan to give the DME. Too-funny

Glactus, complete independence is only as far as ones willingness to self-finance and tell the system to go to hell. I am getting everything I need without condition, deductible or copay, so the decision is currently pretty easy. I will be on Medicare after my next birthday, and I'm in the fortunate position not be be dependent on them for my care. If I'm given unacceptable intrusions, especially if they are ultimately more expensive or inconvenient, I will fly the middle finger and go back to self-care.

I have transferred my PAP care to my primary physician, and we cover it ever year with the question, "how is your BiPAP working for you?" The day I get a referral to a specialist or sleep study, or someone wants to control the settings on my machine, is the day I no longer rely on the system to meet my needs.

I highly doubt anything will change pulling the modem as it's unlikely they are querying the unit. Far more likely the unit initiates communication. In which case it will try to communicate, fail, and then try again at whatever the next interval is, until it succeeds. That's my opinion.

Sleeprider, I 100000000000000% agree with you. I was fortunate enough to find you guys, and fortunate enough to have help setting up my machine, and when it became evident to me that I wanted the better auto bipap and they started hassling me I was again fortunate enough to be able to buy another machine and tell them to eff themselves, all of them. Thank G-d it worked out, and I've never looked back. I even kept and sold the machine they gave me, so too bad for them.

The funniest part I recall is they were so set on having and getting the compliance data and after the first week I never heard or was asked for it ever again, despite the fact that I had it, and kept it.

Cheers to being the captain of the ship, with everything that comes with.

PS- Was looking at new machines on CL just last week and there are a ton of Dreamstations for $300-$500 with almost no hours. Same it as ever was, same as it ever was, kudos to those that get the reference.
