[CPAP] new user having a hard time

new user having a hard time
Hi guys,

I've been using my cpap machine since nov 14th, and feeling really lousy since then.  my initial auto setting was 6-12 but i gradually increased the maximum to 18 because it was spending most of the time at 12.

any advice on why i feel so lousy?  i feel even worse than before i started treatment.  i was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea.

i can post sleepyhead data here, not sure what would be relevant.

G'day mattm1. Welcome to Apnea Board.

While a lot of people get instant fantastic results from CPAP therapy, for most of us it's a journey with one step forwards and two steps back. Eventually we get there and it becomes routine.

It would definitely help if you could post some screenshots from SleepyHead and also the summary page of your sleep study report (make sure to redact any personal details you don't want broadcast to the world). Without that data we're just guessing what the problem might be. The following links show how to organise an post your data. As you are a new member you won't be able to post clickable links - just include a space in the link address (eg htt ps://Imgur.. ) and one of the moderators will fix the link for you.

Post your SleepyHead Data from Imgur http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.php...pnea_Board

In the meantime, you might want to read this, and see what applies to your situation: http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.php...re_success

Hi mattm1,
If you would follow the tutorials in my signature line, that will explain how to take a screenshot, upload to imgur and post here.

Pay attention the the organize section of the graphs. We need to see the following: events, pressure, flow rate, leak and snore graphs. Also the stats on the left, you can eliminate the calendar.

Since you haven’t transitioned to member status yet (you need 4 posts), just leave a space in the link when posting your data.

Much good luck to the OP, and many thanks for the posts above. Makes me realize I'm not managing my own "help me please!' thread very well in terms of data.

First thing I would do is to put up the low to 8 just so the machine does not have to rise so much in pressure.
However, if you have Sleepyhead data, post it.
I am NOT a doctor.  I try to help, but do not take what I say as medical advice.

RE: new user having a hard time
Welcome Mattm1,
I also felt worse at the beginning. (Started at the machine default of 4-20.  After 10 months am at 11 to 13.5 with decent results.)  It is a process.  Someone here explained that your body has adapted to rough night breathing, perhaps for years, and will need time to adapt to better sleep breathing and that thing on your face!

Keep studying here.  Both the APAP machine, Sleepyhead, and other parts of the sleep environment; pillows, sleep position, neck collars, etc.  I even changed to a toothpaste that doesn't make me choke when I use it (from a vitamin store).

Looking forward to seeing your stats.   Sleep-well
