CPAP with oxygen Concentrator

RE: CPAP with oxygen Concentrator
I just bought the CMS 50F pulse oximeter with the Innovo probe from Amazon. It is pricey but much more comfortable to wear than most, so it's worth it to me. It can record up to 24 hours of data that can be uploaded into your computer. It is also SleepyHead compatible, which is nice because you can view your CPAP and oximetry data at the same time.

It is important to measure SPO2 continuously at night, as that is obviously when it will be affected by sleep apnea.

does anyone has a setup where they combine CPAP machine with oxygen Concentrator?

if yes, can you share your experience if adding an oxygen Concentrator gives you better performance?

thanks

Doc isn't going to recommend a concentrator unless s/he feels you need it. Adding oxygen can actually cause more problems if you don't need it. As others have mentioned, what they do first is put you on cpap and see how your oxygen is. If your overall oxygen level is below 88%, then you get oxygen. If you continue to have significant dips, then you might get oxygen (or a different machine). I'm at 91% average for the night, which is the best that they can get with a cpap. However, the doc already said I would be getting a pacemaker before they would go with more oxygen since my slow heart rate has already been identified as the culprit.

The CMS 50D+ is probably the lowest priced recording oximeter you will find. It can be had for $36.30 with free shipping on Amazon currently.

They gave me one to take home and I wore it overnight, then took it back in.

I don't believe they start worrying until you go below 90% for significant periods.

RE: CPAP with oxygen Concentrator
I use an ASV PAP machine with 3 liters of Oxygen from my concentrator. It is not as noisy as a locomotive, but it tries.
I do have a CMS 50i oximeter which can record up to 7nights of info and has a rechargeable battery.
Without the O2 I dip below 88% with 3 liters of O2 I stay around 92-94%.
So don't jump to conclusions. Get tested and get the appropriate therapy. Then if you still have concerns get an oximeter and document your results. Then update your therapy as needed.

RE: CPAP with oxygen Concentrator
Hi - I am new to the forum, and new to sleep apnea... sigh. I was diagnosed with obstructive and prescribed to have oxygen with it. I was very perturbed at the idea that I needed oxygen with it...it was bad enough that I had apnea in the first place, lol. I found a refurbished concentrator, and man, are they LOUD, but it was only $200. I have it in a closet that we keep the door mostly closed... I was told the canisters only last 6 hours...so a concentrator was the most cost effective.
fortunately my Icon Auto is VERY quiet, so it's not that bad. My hubby's cpap is older and MUCH louder than mine...almost louder than the concentrator. I am trying to figure out if I can survive without the concentrator on a cruise. I can't take the huge thing with us...or should I say I don't WANT to.
Any suggestions? Would canisters work??

I hace COPD, sleep w/an pulse oximeter every night. I'm on oxygen full-time. 5lpm resting. Just the way it is.
