Can Palatal Prolapse be treated with CPAP
#41
RE: Can Palatal Prolapse be treated with CPAP
Hey there

Hey just piggybacking on this thread as I'm having a similar flow pattern and wanted input on what might be happening.

I'm getting the spikey negative flow with a flat spot, with mouth taped and no leaks which makes me wonder- where's the air going?

I'm getting good AHI but still feel like dogsh*t in the morning and really think this is the problem...

Then I realized that I had the EPR set to 3, which was maybe allowing the soft palate to swing shut on exhale. I turned EPR off, maintaining therapy pressure on exhales, which it seemed to help, but still felt a bit crappy in the morning. I thought maybe this was because the pressure was too high, and reduced the min pressure, with the max pressure set the 95% mark.

TWO NIGHTS AGO:

Nasal mask, mouth taped, Autoset 7-10.6, I’ve had the best AHI in 3 months, but still feel like I didn’t sleep well.

I then zoomed in on the flow rate and identified 3+ areas that seemed funky. (see attached photos)

1:34:35-1:39-56 5 minutes

4:59:08-5:01:07 2 minutes

5:05:07-5:08:00 3 minutes

Based on the attached photos, are the flat spots between positive flow peaks palatal prolapses, and if so, what’s happening to my exhaled air if there aren’t any mask leaks?

LAST NIGHT:

I tried a fixed flow CPAP at 10.6 last night and it was even worse.  I think the higher flow rate created more arousals, and I think the higher pressure made the expiratory block worse.

2 minute expiratory block with recovery breathing:

5 minutes with mask leak:

5 minutes with recovery breathing:

Any thoughts and insight would be helpful

Thanks!

Michael
