What is the significance of CSR. My last 6 month stats are CSR 6% last 30 days: 3.9% and last week":1.4%. I will go 5 or 6 nights with no CSR. I read someplace that 25% CSR is borderline a problem. I can not seem to find and statistical info on the distribution of CSR in the general population. None of the underlying causes look very good!!!Any good articles or sites on this.Thansk

I don't know about the Resmeds but a lot of what the Respironics machines flag as Periodic Breathing is NOT Chenyes Stokes respiration, just waxing and waning.

CSR is a classic indication of congestive heart failure. The true Cheyne-Stokes respiration is a symmetrical waxing and waning of respiratory volume separated by a central apnea. Unfortunately, the machines typically flag periodic breathing patterns of all kinds, and label them as CSR. Very rarely do we look at the wave forms and agree with that label. Periodic breathing patterns are common in new users with disrupted sleep, and it is really not a meaningful metric.

I have CSR's on a regular basis, but I check them out on Sleephead every morning and in the past year on XPAP I've only had a total of 3 that had a CA or OA in the middle. I always thought that my PR machine did classify too many of them as CSR--the wave form didn't look like the typical one so I quit worrying about them. My DME and sleep doc told me not to worry unless I was having 10 or more every night. I do have some heart problems and a lowered ejection fraction.
