Cheyne Stokes Respiration

Cheyne Stokes Respiration
Hello - I have been using cpap for a long time - I have a deviated septum but still like to use nasal pillows.  The last few nights I have tried using a nasal dilator with the pillows.  These really work for me and i have become a nose breather for the first time in a long while.  The first night was perfect but each night got worse.  This last night saw my  Cheyne Stokes Respiration percentage blossom to 50% and my CAs to 17 per hour.  My yearly average for OA is .13 per hour and my HI is .43.  Most nights my OAs are 0.  The CAs last night were clustered.  I did toss and turn.  My current pressure is 6-8 with an average of 7.  I am thinking that with my nose breathing cleared, the pressure is too high.  I am going to lower it tonight and see if I get any OAs - thoughts?

Hi Dave7777,
Welcome to Apnea Board!

Most folk here like to look at data before attempting to advise.  There is a lot of information on a OSCAR chart that guides us.

According to your profile, it looks like you already have OSCAR.  We'd like to see a Screenshot or two of the Daily page.  Hopefully, you've had a SD card in your Cpap.

Use this link to guide you in setting up your chart.

Use the F12 key (on a Mac, Fn+F12) Standard View to take a Screenshot.
Then use the Attachment Feature to post your chart.

As Opal suggests data is important. One thing that makes Apnea Board different than most of the others is that for the most part we base our suggestions based on data, detailed data. Without data we, and everyone, are left to guess at what is actually happening. Would you rather we guess or offer advice based on data? rhetorical question.

I can definitively state that most likely your settings will need to be adjusted, but without data I cannot tell which settings nor in which direction.

RE: Cheyne Stokes Respiration
Thank you so much for your advice on this board.  Just pursuing this board has given me many ideas and answers to this mystery called apnea.  I have attached two screen shots - one from yesterday (very ugly but i felt fine) and today's which was pretty good.  Last night I used a soft cervical collar and that seemed to solve the problem (most likely chin drops as I slept on my back most that night).  My question now is regarding OAs - My pressure was under 7 and no OA's to be seen.  As I said in my previous post - I very rarely see any OAs - almost thinking of lowering the pressure until some pop up - maybe a crazy idea.  Anyways - your thoughts are truly appreciated.

In general how does your breathing feel?

Keep using the collar. Based on its use the cause of the centrals could have been misreported. We will see if they come back.

I would turn the ramp off simply because at your pressures you shouldn't need it

Breathing is fine - at 4500 ft. elevation - oxygen level at 95% average when sleeping.
