I never figured out what the cause was but I took my machine back to my supplier. Philips replaced my CPAP with a new machine on warranty. I haven't had a problem since. And yeah, that click is extremely annoying. Good luck.

i had this issue and am pretty sure i solved it. It was coming from the lever/hatch that you pull back to open the humidifier top lid. It looks like a spring broke on one side so it's lopsided now. The part needs to be fixed or replaced. I stuck some paper in it so it doesn't move or make any noise. Pretty sure it it worked like a charm.
