Correlation twixt Years of Therapy & OSA Appts

Question
Correlation twixt Years of Therapy & OSA Appts
As I've gotten older I've noticed that my visits with the sleep doc have gotten further apart. I'm approaching the 20 year mark and the last time I saw my sleep doc was in 2012. Banana

(A simple poll can't handle these questions and I'm reluctant to spend the time on a formal survey that most members won't answer.) Oh-jeez

So my questions to the members of this forum are: How long have you been receiving therapy for OSA; and when was the last time you visited your sleep doc or how often do you see the sleep doc? Huhsign

I've been doing CPAP therapy since 2008 and I'm pretty sure I have had OSA way before then.
I have never seen a sleep doc, I got 2 sleep studies through my regular doc.
I had to get 2 studies because I didn't get to sleep in time at my first one to be fited with a mask and machine.

1. About 9 months ago

2. Never saw a Sleep Doc. A Neurologist/Sleep Specialist whom I have never seen or spoken with, read my sleep study and home titration using a loaner S9 Autoset. She made a recommendation for CPAP at pressure 14 (which was wrong). Fortunately, I knew enough by then to advocate for a better machine.

3. I don't have a Sleep Doc. My insurance may change soon, and I'll revisit the issue then.

Little less than 90 days. GP ordered my study, Never saw the Sleep Doc that read my study. Did see his partner in the same office once. He set me up for COPD test that I didnt need and a follow up with him.

After taking a week to get thru his staff to get my bottom pressure raised from 6 to 8 I cancelled the test and appointment with him and set one with my GP for my last face to face visit required by my insurance in the first 90 days. I highly doubt Ill be seeing the sleep doc again. He was friendly enough but a week is to long to tell a DME to move my pressure. Plus he jumped my top pressure from 15 to 18 which made no sense.

Ill be seeing my GP from now on if theres a need, and dealing with my own settings.

RE: Correlation twixt Years of Therapy & OSA Appts
I have been Paping for about 5 years. I never saw a sleep doctor for the first 4 years and am now weeing one about once per year. I am thinking about discontinuing that practice soon. I am not at all sure that he is worth what he charges. I go to his office and wait for a while. Then we shoot the breeze for a few minutes. If I have a machine that is new to him (for me), he checks the pressure. That is it. Takes about 10 minutes of his time and about 1.5 hours of my time with travel and parking. I am not a happy camper but on the other hand I have not had any questions for him that required much thought because by the time I get to see the doc they have pretty much been answered.

Anyway, That's my story and I am sticking to it.

Best Regards,

PaytonA

I've been PAPing for 3 years and have seen a sleep doc only once. The DME she recommends requires a new prescription every year. The DME I had before that requires only the initial prescription, never a renewal. Same state, same insurance plan, just different legal interpretations and business practices.

Sine starting cpap 18 years ago I used to have an overnight sleep study every 2 years for the first 8 years. Last saw my specialist in 2012 he said you're doing well dont need to see you for 5 years.

This is because the new generation Resmeds keep me breathing better than ever and I have always been 100% compliant.
