Curious about why I keep losing Oscar graphic display

Curious about why I keep losing Oscar graphic display
Recently (May 9, 2021) I posted that Oscar had lost the ability to display ANYTHING useful.
You guys saved the day with a link to SetOscarGraphicDisplay.bat, which absolutely worked.
Thanks again.
HOWEVER, it keeps happening, at least 5 times since then.
Any ideas what system situation could cause this graphics display problem to keep happening?
Again, the batch file works perfectly every time, but I have to wonder why I keep needing it.

Do you happen to be holding the SHIFT key (or any key) down when you start OSCAR? The SHIFT key will set the display driver to the Software Engine version.

I start Oscar with a double click, not touching the keyboard. It usually comes up fine, except when it doesn't. Then I use the batch file.

Here is another idea.  Change the permission level to prevent this registry entry from being overwritten.  This idea can be easily reversed if desired.
  1.  In the Windows registry, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\OSCAR_Team\OSCAR.
*** Before modifying the permissions, make sure that the value for GFXngine is set to 0x000 (zero).  ***

  2.  While clicked on the OSCAR listing on the left, right-click and select Permissions....

  3.  Select the Advanced button to enter the advanced permission area.

  4.  Go through each entry and edit it so each group or user will only have Read permission.
This can be done by first selecting the checkbox for Full Control in the Deny column, then deselect Query Value and Read Control from this column.
***  Note: When you deselect either of the previous parameters, the Full Control will be deselected as well. ***

  5.   Click OK and exit.

Good luck!

RE: Curious about why I keep losing Oscar graphic display
When you start OSCAR, do you ever get a message that says:

Quote:OSCAR crashed due to an incompatibility with your graphics hardware.
To resolve this, OSCAR has reverted to a slower but more compatible method of drawing.

The next time OSCAR doesn't work when you try to start it, look in the OSCAR_Data\logs directory. Copy the debug.txt file to a reply to this message. The first and last 50 lines are usually all that we need to see.

Thanks.

UPDATE: Please provide the debug.txt information before trying Red's approach.

I will wait to do Crimson Nape's idea until after the next failure, so I can reply to GuyScharf

To GuyScharf--
It finally happened again this morning.
The folder C:\Users\Owner\Documents\OSCAR_Data\ is empty.
Is there anything else I should do before I try Red's approach?

RE: Curious about why I keep losing Oscar graphic display
I went back and re-read your posts. In one of them you state that you start OSCAR, then run the batch file. What batch file are you running?

Previously you were having a display problem, now you are saying your data folder is empty, Those are two different things. What is the path displayed when you use Help > About OSCAR > Show data folder?

When I click on "Show data folder" it opens a new Oscar window and asks for my cpap card. I try again, it does the same. When 3 Oscar windows have been opened, it then shows a completely white window. When I terminate that and start over, I get the same results.

Reinstalled Oscar. Works fine. Checked the OSCAR_Data folder (via Help, About), and it is populated, including the logs folder, with debug.txt. But of course, it begins with the reinstall, nothing previous. Not much to do except keep on keeping on.
