Trouble catching breath in the morning after removing mask. Anybody help?
Hi, ive recently had dental surgery and no longer have teeth until my gums heal in like 5 months. I had gastric bypass surgery and lost 135 pounds. I had a bipap machine 7 years ago and recently started using it again 3 days ago. After removing my teeth, my apnea became considerabley worse. But, when i awoke this morning, i took off my mask epa-6 and ipa-10, and felt chest pain as i could not catch my breath. i have been short of breath for hours since i have awoke. ive recently had a good heart cath, could the bipap be damaging my lungs and making it hard to breathe normal without pressure?? Any feed back is appreciated. This is my first visit to a forum. Thanks.

I think you should see a doctor now.

First, congrats on the weight loss, but you have a lot going on with dental surgery and a recent heart cath.
Have you had a recent sleep study? I ask because you state you haven't used your bipap for 7 years, unless I'm misunderstanding you. I'm certain that with a hugh weight loss your settings may no longer be optimal for you. You really should touch base with your cardiologist or sleep specialist to obtain advice if you haven't had a recent sleep study. This is probably nothing to mess with.

In any case you should have left for the doctor by now or I'd put the bipap on till the appointment time.
A wild guess..Did you have an anesthetic with the teeth? It could be post op pulmonary oedema?

For auto-cpap, from machine data or software. You can set the min pressure 1 or 2cm below 95%. Or clinicians commonly use the maximum or 95% pressure for fixed pressure CPAP, this can also be used for min pressure. https://aasm.org/resources/practiceparam...rating.pdf

One of my managers got up in the morning feeling "a bit off" while in the shower. After breakfast, he still felt strange, went to the doc. Doc checked him out and started a back and forth on his options for surgery... boss asked him "Just tell me, did I have a heart attack?" "Sir, you ARE HAVING a heart attack" ANY chest pain, particularly coupled with any other symptoms, needs to be checked.
