Defeated by doctor

RE: Defeated by doctor
Hi Tess,
I’m sorry your sleep doc has bedside manner in the negative indegers, I hope you find another one that is more attentive to your needs.
I also hope you can get a machine that is fully data-capable. Since you haven’t had the AirScense10 CPAP machine very long, you might consider taking it back and exchange it for the AirScense10 AutoSet.
Good luck to you and don’t let that doc make you feel defeated, you are giving him MUCH TO MUCH POWER,!! don’t do that, he doesn’t deserve it.

Tess, if it helps, I can let you borrow this:

[Image: mQrCvMEl.png?2] just don't hit the Doc too hard...

I am kidding; stay with what you know to do; change docs, DME, whatever you must to be successful. I had to keep calling the doc, DME and insurance for over a month before my new ASV machine would be ready for me this coming Friday. Moral is Never Quit.

Best success,
Dave B.

Thanks, Trish.  I am looking for another doctor.  Also, something I should have considered first. He has "expertise" in sleep issues but is not board-certified.

Exciting that you will have your machine soon.  Yes, I could have used that mallet, but I also had a big heavy bag that would have done the trick.  Instead I wrote him a letter, which I haven't mailed.  I probably won't, but it made me feel better.

Yes, and thanks. Little fight but the good guys win, especially when armed with the info on Apnea Board. (Yeah that was serious folks.) Whatever tool you choose is fine by me, I guess I'm OK with that because I'm not the Doc. Keep up the sense of humor, because unfortunate or otherwise, doctors, DME's, and insurance like to push us to places that challenge our attitudes. I for one cope with secretly hitting them with a virtual mallet.

Again a sincere Best to y'all this eve. I gotta go silent-ish now as an early for me appointment for a CT scan calls. And with the glow in the dark dye too... Bug-eyed

Wait.

I'm confused.

I thought Tess was selecting a new doctor and leaving the tool....

Don't choose a tool.

We're engaging in virtual doc hitting with the tool of individual choice. But don't worry. We used stunt doubles and no good docs were harmed. Finally I personally made sure all the Ducks were in a row then...POW!  Too-funny Hammer

Well g'night y'all

If you have an AHI of 2.1, then your doctor is probably correct: your sleep apnea is treated properly.

The "xpap geeks" on this forum will tell you to change your machine, but another machine is little to make negligible difference once you have achieved a low AHI already.

Sleep apnea is probably not the primary cause for sleep disruption in your case.

I am in the same situation: after having been on CPAP/APAP for 6 months, still didn't feel that much better. We therefore decided to do a full overnight sleep study, which confirmed that OSA was only accounting for the third of the issues during the night.

RE: Defeated by doctor
Hi, Ted.  Hope the other two-thirds have been identified.

Maybe I was doing a little magical thinking: like if I stick with CPAP, all other health concerns will disappear.  I have not been vigilant about my eating with diabetes, a pain in the derriere for someone who really likes to eat.  If I wanted ice cream to soothe my CPAP distress, I had ice cream. Luckily, I'm at the low end of diabetes severity, but to stay there, I have to get back on the wagon of low-carb/low-sugar.

Why did I think that as I aged, I would have no health issues.  Ha.  Magical thinking.

Hang in there.  Everyone on this forum has been so helpful and encouraging.  I'm sticking with the machine, will find a new doc when I have to go again in December and, now that I'm feeling CPAP-better, I will return to addressing other things.

Sounds very similar to my several medical issues plan of attack. I have in the past 3 years had to address what seemed worst and focus on that one, bring it to resolution or being treated then start process over on the next worst and so on. Now that I've begun addressing Mixed apneas with the ASV, and will soon change to new pulmonary doctor and support staff, my next focus is getting fitted for a spinal stimulant trial.

Glad to hear you're sticking with it. And trust me on this, I have to make myself do the same. I would rather find a simple solution to eliminating apnea altogether. But the best for lots, including all of us here on AB, is CPAP therapy of some form.

But look at it like this, if we never had to struggle or fight some battle, we would never know how strong we actually are, wouldn't realize how wonderful victories feel.
