[Diagnosis] Goiter and Apnea
#1
Question
Goiter and Apnea
Goiter (enlargement of the thyroid gland) and Apnea ? does anyone have experience with this ?

This mass will compress the trachea (windpipe) and esophagus (swallowing tube) leading to symptoms, such as coughing, waking up from sleep feeling like you can't breathe

RE: Goiter and Apnea
If you or someone you know has an enlarged thyroid and it is affecting breathing and/or swallowing, this should be checked out with a physician, preferably and endocrinologist, asap.
Things which can cause this include thyroiditis (inflammation from infectious, autoimmune, or other causes), benign growths such as nodules or cysts, malignant growths, other hormones affecting it.

Growths can be reduced or excised, cysts can be drained, autoimmune conditions can be treated. While rare, thyroid cancer is a possibility, so please, this person should go to the doc.
