Do The CPAP Gods Care
about the difference between CA and OA? Are they equally injurious? I know OA can cause acid reflux but other than that are CA's as worrisome?

RE: Do The CPAP Gods Care
The difference doesn't matter in that either way, you're not breathing. But if you have a significant number of one or the other, then yes, it matters because it determines the adjustments you might make. In the simplest case, you'd increase the pressure to reduce the number of obstructive events (apneas or hypopneas). If you are experiencing a large number of centrals then raising the pressure is the last thing you'd want to do to try to treat them. In fact, lowering the pressure is the usual treatment.
The algorithms used in auto-adjusting machines do not respond to centrals.

RE: Do The CPAP Gods Care
I have AHI around 1.X to 2.X per hour. Around 50%-80% are CA.

RE: Do The CPAP Gods Care
CA isn't necessarily more harmful, but they can be harder to eliminate.
A higher pressure can cause CA. Be sure to look at the flow rate waveforms. A long apnea is worse than a short one, but AHI numbers counts them the same.

I don't understand Sleepyhead very well. I look at the pie chart and the rate per hour...

RE: Do The CPAP Gods Care
Player, the event rate you are experiencing (< 3/hour) is acceptable, with more than half being CA. The duration of CA events may be quite minimal. Take a look at the daily events where you see the pie chart, and above the chart, click on the Events tab. You will see a list of event types with a number next to it. That is the total number of that type of event. By clicking on the > arrow, you can open up a list to see each of those events that occurred. When you click on an event, the details charts will zoom in on the event and let you see the wave form and other data related to the event. This lets you see how long it lasted, and the pressure, leaks and other data that coincide with the event.
What you're looking for is a pattern. For example, so all OA occur below a certain pressure? Do all CA occur above a certain pressure? By examining the events you might be able to conclude if there is a setting you can make to perhaps minimize the occurrences. Good luck. Also feel free to post data that might help us help you to interpret this. http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.php...pnea_Board
