Does EPR (or other press supports) reduce lifespan of blower motor ?

Does EPR (or other press supports) reduce lifespan of blower motor ?
My Breaths per Min is around 21 and I use EPR.
If I was to sleep for 7 hours,  this would mean that my blower motor changes speeds more than 8000 times a night to accomplish the EPR request.  3M times in a year, and 16M times in a 5 years life span (typical replacement cycle, I think)

EPR certainly has great benefits, but is it worth considering using the least EPR (or not at all) that one could tolerate while still getting good sleep/therapy , as far as machine longevity is concerned ?

The machine has to work against you inhaling and exhaling anyway (if you feel around the air inlet as you breath you'll feel the air going in and out), so the motor effort is constantly changing no matter what.

It might make more of a difference if it has to achieve a high pressure setting vs lower pressures since there's more current flowing through the motor windings, generating a little more heat, but it might also be insignificant since the rushing air cools the windings. I wouldn't worry about any of that, especially if it helps you sleep better.

My machine is over 5 years old and still seems to run like new. I have used EPR of 3 for all but the first 3 weeks.

My machine is seven years and counting. EPR reduces both hypopnea and flow limitations, so I sleep better - it is not a 'comfort feature' for me. I am happy to give up the possibility of some unspecified number of months in exchange for years of better sleep.

The motor is designed to run.  It doesn't hurt it to be altering its speed, particularly since the whole point of PAP therapy is to provide flow based on changing circumstances in your airway's condition.  That is to say, the entire apparatus is designed to adjust to your varying requirements, second-to-second.

I think this is a good theoretical question but it would be like someone not running as much or not running as fast as they would like to so their treadmill might last longer.

I have nearly 20K hours on my Aircurve 10 that has had 4 cm PS from the beginning. I don't see any relationship between PS and EPR to blower motor life.

As already mentioned the motor has to vary constantly in order to maintain a set pressure because it has to offset your spontaneous effort. If the motor ran at a continuous setting the pressure being supplied would increase during exhale and decrease during inhale which is obviously counter productive.

These are brushless DC motors so the fluctuating speed doesn't have much effect. Higher pressures is likely to have more of an effect by making the motor work harder but I wouldn't worry about any of that, settings should be based on comfort and obtaining adequate treatment not trying to maximize machine lifespan.
