Does it hurt to let the humidifier tank run dry?

My old DreamStation used to run out of water regularly.  There was no smell, and the tank was not at all damaged.  With my ResMed, it only runs out occasionally, but again, with no smell and no tank damage.  I don't know why others have problems, but I have not had any.

To OP - Wouldn't it just be easier to modify your routine by filling water tank before masking up? We all have routines, why not modify it?

Well, perhaps one day I'll be this well organized. I doubt it's going to be any time soon, though.
