Dreamstation heated hose temp repair fix

Dreamstation heated hose temp repair fix
Woke up as I noticed air rushing out of a very small (1/8" x 1/16") hole in my Dreamstation's heated hose.  No wonder leaks have been rising, lol!!  It's right as it goes into the hard plastic end that fits into the mask hose.  The heating element line appears to be uncompromised.

As it won't heal itself and will probably get worse, need advice on repair to use while I wait for a new one to arrive.  Superglue, Goop, Elmer's... Band-aid, duct tape, rubber band, ??  Unsure The material seems pretty fragile.  Appreciate all advice, thank you.  So far I'm thinking of trying a piece of a Band-aid as it would be thin and sticky.

I'm kinda partial to electrical tape for this application. Duct tape works, but the electric tape has plenty of strength and is more flexible. Avoid any liquid sealants.

Sounds good, thank you Sleeprider, and I have a couple of rolls - could do the whole hose if needed!
I'll try it tonight.

I used duct tape, but I agree electrical tape (if you have it) probably would work better due to it's smaller width.

RE: Dreamstation heated hose temp repair fix
I use the non-heated hose. Mine failed after 4 months in that exact same spot. The interesting thing about the failure was that it was intermittent. The hose needed to be flexed a certain way to make the hole bigger.

Fortunately my DME supplier is close by. When I went to buy a new hose the tech told me it was a common failure location. Earlier that day another person complained to him of a failure in that same spot.

MacGyver used duct tape to repair things, but I also opted for electrical tape to fix mine. Worked quite well, as confirmed by SleepyHead reports. I used it for about a month without problems. The reason I replaced it is I didn't want to attempt to clean the hose. The electrical tape would leave sticky residue when removed.

My cost for a new hose after insurance was somewhere around $5. But if my co-pay was higher and I couldn't afford to replace the hose, I'd probably opt for some sort of flexible silicone sealant that I'd apply to that entire area where the flexible part of the hose joins to the hard rubber.

I had the same thing happen to the Respironics slimline hose that came with my DreamStation. I replaced it with the heated hose I've been using for over a year.

In the diving/rescue business, we used to use AquaSeal, (similar to shoe goo), it worked well and survived rough handling/use.

I would use this material instead of any tape..

RE: Dreamstation heated hose temp repair fix
Well, here's what happened.
Used small piece of electrical tape, it lasted 2 nights, didn't want to stick.  In the meantime I ordered a new hose, etc. from DME (Hose was 8 months old so I had more than gotten my use from it.  According to DME chart replacement document I'm supposed to replace it every 3 months, $24 co-pay.)

Then, since I had fresh bathtub caulk since I had just re-caulked and grouted a bathtub, used that.  Lasted three nights.  My next bright idea  Too-funny was to get the largest diameter heat-shrink tubing for electrical connections I could find.  The application was working very well until the heat from the hairdryer melted a previously undamaged section of the hose.  Oh-jeez Had to throw it away and just not APAP.

When the new hose didn't show up after a week, I called DME.  He was very nice, but they are out of stock on that item.

So I ordered one from Amazon - Apnea Air Systems , $29 + $4 extra shipping, got it in 6 days, including the Columbus day holiday, pretty good.  When and if I receive one from DME Co., it will be my spare.  I'm always going to have spares from now on.

I have 4 or 5 of the Climateline hoses hanging around. They are multiplying.

Are you putting them in the same closet and then leaving the door closed?
