Dreamstation turning off by itself??

Dreamstation turning off by itself??
Second time this happened in a week and it's freaking me out. Philips Resperonics Dreamstation. Just over 3 years old. Last week I woke up in the middle of the night and the machine was off. I was groggy and didn't think to look for any error sign or anything. I pushed the button and it started up again. Tonight same thing happened.

I checked in the device settings and "Auto Off" is set to off. I ran the device test and it gives me an A, B, C, D, and E result thats a long list of digits.

There was no power outage in the house. I have the unit plugged into a power strip. I ordered a UPS that will be here tommorow.

I called the provider and they want to charge me hundreds for a swap out unit since I am out of warranty.

Any ideas on how to fix this or am I just out the $$?

It could just be the power strip (surge protector) has gone bad.  Also the cord (power brick) that connects the cpap may be bad.

Even though you are out of warranty, your DME should have offered to try a new power supply (power brick) to see if that was the problem, before trying to sell you a new unit.

RE: Dreamstation turning off by itself??
Couple of things come to mind (several happened to us) -

Do you have a cat? One of ours was notorious for walking on my wife's machine until we put a cover on it.

Have you tried running the CPAP without the power strip and plugging it directly into the wall? Also, have you tried unplugging all electrical plugs and reseating them? Don't laugh, you will be surprised how often I have done this with audio equipment and found that was the cause.

Are your running either SleepyHead or OSCAR? If so, have you downloaded the file and looked at where it drops off? You would be looking at when it drops to see if it dropped at about the same time on each occurrence. This may point to an overheat condition in the machine.

To see if it is a power drop or not, get a cheap digital clock WITHOUT a battery backup and plug it into the power strip. If there is a drop, then the clock will reset itself and flash. I have found from experience that cheap clocks will drop the time at the least power hiccup.

While you are past the 2 year warranty for the machine, if you are on Medicare then the machine is warranted for five years. We just went through this with my wife's Dreamstation. BTW, she is on her thrid one in 3 years - the first one would shut down after about 30 seconds. We could sit there and watch it.

Just some ideas.

No pets

The first time it happened I unplugged everything, cleaned everything, and reseated everything. Still shut off after that. Nothing else in the power strip has had a "reset" including a desk clock

Neither, I'll have to look into that

So I called my insurance company and they are going to cover a new machine, so I'm going to order that. With my coinsurance it should be around $100.
