EDF Browser or import to Sleepyhead ?
#1
Hello,

1 EDF Browser

Got my data from the hospital sleep test. ................ A set of EDF files.

Googling has led me to edf browser, which can indeed open the files and play them - it is now just a matter of learning how to use the software.

What do other people use to open edf files ?

2. SLEEPYHEAD

On the Sleepyhead help pages I found this

SleepyHeads EDF parser and S9 importer has been written from scratch
It consists of two parts
  • A generic EDF parser class named EDFParser
  • and the custom S9 importer class named ResMedLoader
It is implemented in SleepLib/loader_plugins/resmed_loader.cpp / .h

However I cannot figure out how to run this EDF parser and import the data into Sleepyhead

Have other people succesfully imported edf data into Sleepyhead ?

Are there other programs to view edf files - I did find Matlab but that looks complicated.

3. FAQs

Did I miss something in the FAQs that has already answered these questions ?

Download and install SleepyHead.
Start SleepyHead.
Within SleepyHead, import the data.
Once imported, you may view overall summary statistics or individual night details.

Beej,

Thanks for the advice.

That is exactly what I did.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software twice.

I have followed the instructions in the help file by pointing to the root directory of the card.

I have tried copying the files onto my PC and pointed to the directory containing the files.

Sleepyhead crashes every time.

I know the EDF files are good because I can open them in edfbrowser.

Anybody got any clues about what might be wrong ?

Running Windows 7 and using the download from here .................. https://sleepyhead.jedimark.net/

As far as I know, SleepyHead is not meant to be an "EDF-Viewer" ... some machines store in an "EDF-like" format - but if you have "real" EDF from a sleep-leab THE EDF-Viewer or THE EDF-Browser is what you really want (and need)

Thanks,

I think you are right, was hopeful after reading about edf formats in the sleepyhead help file.

Have stopped trying to use sleepyhead - tried on two different machines and am now using edfbrowser.

Pity, it looked to be a very user friendly program.

Have got edfbrowser working and creating good looking graphs of the data.

Very encouraging to see graphs of the data rather than just words on a consultants report.

did you try the broken gl version?

Tried the broken GL version - same problems - sleepyhead crashes.

Broken GL will not run on my laptop but does run on the desktop.

i found a half dozen or so programs to read EDF files along with the file format specs

see the other post here labelled file formats

it said that resmed and respironics use the EDF format
which is the european data format standard for medical data
