Nose Sores
I started with full face mask and was not having any success. I switched to a F&P Eason nasal mask and bingo started going 4 hours plus every night. Success! Not so fast, after about two weeks of using the nasal mask I have developed and open sore/abrasion on the bridge of my nose. I went to my hospital's CPAP clinic yesterday and they said the sore is being caused by lack of blood flow caused my mask pressure on the nose and thus skin cells are dying and thus the sore developed. They told me to not wear the mask for 2-3 days till the abrasion heals and treat with an antibiotic ointment. They also loosened the mask strap adjustment a bit but it really wasn't that tight to start.

RE: Nose Sores
The solution may be a different mask or maybe a different size of the same mask.
One of our excellent forum members ( I would give credit by naming the person involved but i am old and can't remember CRAP) had a solution. It involves getting some of the flat cotton circles at the drug store. Cut in half and place one half over the bridge of your nose where the top of the mask seal goes. If it causes leakage separate the cotton layers and thin it down until no more leaks. This might also help in trying to get your nose to heal. Best Regards, PaytonA

RE: Nose Sores
I'm not sure I'd go with the dead skin thing, but yeah, once you get a sore you pretty much have to heal it before you can strap on that mask again. I think I'd ask my humble hospital crowd for a nice pillows mask. I most generally always recommend the Resmed P10 anyway, but especially if you're getting abrasive sores on the top of Mr. Nosie. The P10 (or something similar) should resolve your problem nicely, and you may find as I and countless thousands of others here on apneaboard have discovered that changing to this mask is better than a spam sandwich on rye bread.

RE: Nose Sores
I had the same problem with my FFM giving me sores on my nose. I went ahead and bought the Resmed p10 nasal pillows and even though I only used them for one night I think I like it better than my FFM. I'd give some nasal pillows a try! Its much less restrictive and confining IMO.
Good luck!

RE: Nose Sores
I also love to recommend the P10 pillow mask but do note that if you CANNOT wear your current mask your insurance MAY (should) pay for a replacement.
A lot of DMEs will tell you, 'we can't give you a new mask for N months" but if you call the insurance company to explain you may find (as I did) that they were HAPPY to pay for another mask only a month after my previous mask.

RE: Nose Sores
Yes. As you may have ascertained, it's but a matter of time until everyone uses the P10. Resistance is futile.

RE: Nose Sores
I went last night with ResMed Swift FX nasal pillows to stay away from nose and worked reasonably well, although a somewhat different feel to get use to . Also got a GecKo gel nose strip to try, after nose completely heeled.
Thanks for help so far. Paul |
