[Equipment] Are CPAP Oil Infusion Adapters safe for machine?
#1
Question
Are CPAP Oil Infusion Adapters safe for machine?
Has anyone tried a cpap essential oil infusion adapter? A drop of scented oil is dropped on a pad and inserted into the adapter which then attaches between the hose and the machine. I would like to try one but need to verify that it is safe for my machine.

Since that adapter is on the exhaust side of the machine, it should have no effect at all on the machine. Many people who like the oils, just put some on a pad placed outside the machine air intake, and that runs through the machine.

McSheltie, let's not tempt the new members to post links that will earn an infraction. Just do a search on "essential oil cpap adapter"...lots of results. They seem to attach between the mask and hose.

Not sure what the problem is. I see people asking about where to get masks, machines, hose covers etc.. and getting responses such as try Supplier #2000. Why is my asking where to get this product any different?

I think that allowing essential oils to enter the machines air INTAKE is very likely to reduce the lifetime of the machine substantially. I have no experience with CPAP machines and oils specifically, however, I've seen many other types of fans, valves, and electric motors hopelessly gummed up by oils and/or resins that are found in volatile oils. They can be very destructive in a short amount of time, and it doesn't always take a lot of oil to do it. So, I would avoid any air path that includes the air intake of the machine. If the oil is downstream of the hose, knock yourself out - that should be safe for the machine. However, be careful with essential oils. I developed a raging rash from lavender oil, and only found out after the fact that it's one of the botanical oils that people often develop allergies to.

Good luck.
