[Equipment] Best Full Face Mask??

Best Full Face Mask??
Hi again,

Had been having trouble adjusting to using both a Phillips Wisp nasal mask and a F&P Pilairo nasal pillows due to my nostrils blocking up so my GP set up an appointment with an ENT specialist, his verdict I have a severely deviated septum in my left nostril, approx. 90% blocked according to him. In the short term [1month] he has me on Nasonex spray and Flonase washes 2 x daily, but seems fairly keen to take the "scalpel" to my nose which to be honest I'm not too keen on as like he says there are risks associated with that. Seems like the other option is a full face mask as I am forced to breathe through my mouth once my "good" nostril blocks up [usually 3 hours or so] so need some input as to what FFM's are the best etc.

The Fisher & Paykel Simplus is not a bad one. It has many good reviews as far as comfort and ease of adjusting to... It is my back up mask to my Mirage FX Nasal.

If I were in the market for a new FFM, I would immediately order the new Resmed Air F10. This mask is building on the success they have had with the P10 pillows mask and the also new N10 nasal.

I have a Quattro Air that I like pretty well for those times I have to go to a ffm. But if I had to do that often (my go-to mask daily is a P10 pillows) I would replace it with the F10, sight unseen.

I just trialed the new resmed full face Air f10 and the Simplus. The Simplus
is the winner for me. It was more comfortable and I had better luck
controlling the leaks

Since it is advertised as a "Full Face Mask", then I must add my favorite:

Innomed Hybrid FFM (which is really a hybrid of an oral and pillow mask). The only think FFM about it is that you can breathe either or both your nose and mouth.

Must better on many counts than a typical FFM: Nothing to fit above the nose, nothing needs to come before the base of your nose.

Comes with ALL the interchangable sizes.

Frankly, everyone who cannot wear a nasal pillow mask has my extreme sympathy -- there are SO many things that are just not issues once we stop trying to enclose our faces and seal against all those odd angles and planes.

The hybrid is NOT as good at the P10 pillow but it does eliminate many of the issues of the FFM.

I see that your pressure for your autoset is 11-20. Do you very often get pressures at 18+? If so, do you encounter leaks that you can not control with the Simplus? I am thinking about the Simplus but someone mentioned that they got leaks they could not control when their auto controlled pressure got up to 18.

I'm surprised that every person that gets diagnosed with Sleep Apnea doesn't automatically have a brief meeting with an ENT. There are so many issues related to breathing. The sleep doctors are often doing their own 3-second test to see if you have any nasal issues -- looking up our noses with a light. An ENT can do a lot more than that and give a much more qualified result.

Regarding masks, wow, that's like asking which car is the best. Have you gone through the mask review section here? Personally, I looked at the popular ones both here and in review sections of the CPAP supplier sites. My choices were the ResMed Quattro Mirage (huge number of users, adjustable, heavy, and be prepared to deal with nose bridge issues) and the Quattro Air (extremely light, no adjustment dial, also popular now as the F10 has the same cushion).

Of course, the standard way is to go through a DME and they'll keep trying different masks until they get the right one (if you're lucky) but I wasn't so lucky with DMEs and I don't have insurance coverage. If you're going it alone, be sure to get ahold of the fitting guides beforehand to get the perfect size for you.

RE: Best Full Face Mask??
I have tried multiple full face masks, and my big issue with all of them is if/when my pressure spikes, none of them stop leaking. The only reason I've gone to FFMs is due to air 'hissing' through my lips. Not so much actual mouth breathing.

Not really what you asked, but my nose was so bad, that I could not get enough air through my nose no matter if I was sitting still and just reading a book - then I had nose surgery, and it actually changed my life~! I was like 48 years old before I learned you didn't have to hold your breath to kiss someone~! Personally, I would have the nose surgery done in a heartbeat again too. I guess I do not understand why you wouldn't want to get your nose fixed?

Before I get in bed I do a mask fit check going up to a pressure
of 20.
I am able to control my leaks with a leak strap I rigged up.
The leak strap goes under the hose connector and around the
back of my head. I'm not even sure what I'm using-I found it in
a first aid kit laying around. But it works. Very narrow, stretchy

Karen sells very nice leak straps and describes how you can determine
if it would work for you.
