[Equipment] Is it possible for a foreigner to buy a CPAP machine using the prescription from

Is it possible for a foreigner to buy a CPAP machine using the prescription from
their own country?

I live in China and will go on a vacation with a friend to Hawaii, I checked that there are DME in Honolulu, and I want to buy a ResMed Air mini, because we don’t have any models that are newer than ResMed S9 here in China. I have the prescription from my doctor here, I don’t know if it isn’t possible to use this prescription to by the machine in Hawaii, because i don’t want to waste a night there for sleepy study, and I have booked the hotel in advance. Thanks if anyone can give me some information.

They may sell it to you but you'll have to pay the full price, since you are not insured in the US.

Technically, prescriptions must be issued by a licensed physician in the United States. However, you may find a DME who does not strictly follow this requirement. Good luck!

Most of the Suppliers listed on our list will ship overseas without specific prescriptions as they are not always required. If you have a prescription, from China and it is not in English, it is unlikely the store will be able to read or translate the document anyway. Supplier #2 and Supplier #33 are well knows for selling to overseas clients at a significant discount to the prices in Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, however they do charge additional shipping to cover costs. We have seen Supplier #2 provide excellent warranty service to overseas customers. You should contact them by phone or through the web site. I'm sure you will get a good deal and good service.

Supplier #10 does not require prescription when shipping outside the USA.
Supplier #1 accepted my own English translation, added on my local-language prescription. They do not ship Resmed and Respironics products outside the USA, though.
CPAP sellers on the major auction sites do not require prescriptions.

Just to provide some additional information to what the rest of the folks have said in this thread. I'm in a similar position to you in that I live outside of the US, and just had experience in placing an order with Supplier #33. My prescription was not necessary since it was shipped outside of the US. There are other options that the supplier provides that make it possible to have your order shipped to an address in the US once they can verify that it will be taken abroad. I'll take advantage of this alternate option for my next visit to the US.

I bought mine on ebay from US for $500, it came in about a month, paid VAT/customs tax about 10-15%.

Re/Sellers and producers on Alibaba recommend Chinese copies of Resmed Airsense and S9 as being reliable enough for a third of the price. You also have to pay VAT/customs if requested by customs. When sourcing from alibaba, you should consider not only claimed technical paramethers of the device, but also the reliability of the source and to some extent,  the reviews of the buyers.

Thanks very helpful.

I had a close call travelling in the US. I've been concerned ever since. In fact I haven't visited the US in years because of that experience. My cpap was fine because I was using a surge suppressor. The tv plugged into the same receptacle died. I asked a major vendor if I could replace my cpap if it failed, and they insisted on a US prescription.
My new sleep doc in Oakville Ontario wants to sell me a machine. He'll only sell me a cpap, and I want something that will autotitrate...

Ask your doc if he will sell you a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her.

Note that IAW this official Ontario government document that the AutoSet for her is in "fact" a CPAP  Dielaughing

If the above doesn't work out, here's an apparently good option to consider:
