I'm new to this forum and have been reading it off and on for two days. I picked up an AirSense 10 from my DME last Friday and have had a few strange noises from time to time, kind of like waking up to what sounds like tissue paper crumbling; the DME couldn't figure out what it was. In reading this forum I found out how to check the run hours (thank you very much!) and was surprised to see it was 1680 which to me, sounds like a lot. Should I ask the DME for a new one? Since my events are showing up as .1 or .3, I believe it's working for me and it seems that I can tolerate the machine. I plan to continue and not give up. I am on a Medicare Advantage program so I pay a co-pay and believe that it will be paid in full after a year. So, since I plan to keep it, I think I should have a new one and not a used one? Am I being too picky? I don't know how long they last, or if that is a lot of hours. Thanks so much for your help. And thank you for this forum; I've learned a lot.

Is it possible to get a new machine?
Hi,

RE: Is it possible to get a new machine?
Take it back and tell them you want a new one or you'll change DME's. Medicare and you are paying top price for a new one so your being ripped off.

RE: Is it possible to get a new machine?
well, were you charged for a new or used machine? That is half a year at 9 hours sleep, or about 2.25 months continuous use. I'd ask for a new machine. Or call ResMed with the serial number to see its history.

RE: Is it possible to get a new machine?
Call them and make arrangements to get a new machine. (Or just show up if you so choose) But you will have to be firm on this. Do not take no for an answer. They are likely charging the insurance for a new machine which obviously means zero run hours. Act ASAP on this as well. As a follow-up, especially if the DME resists, get your insurance involved. Call the customer service and discuss this.
Best to success...

RE: Is it possible to get a new machine?
The same thing happened to me. Once I found out how many hours were on the “new” machine, I called my DME. I told them I wanted a new machine with no hours on it. At first, they gave me a hard time, but when I threatened to bring it back and use another DME, I had a new machine within a week. I checked the hours in front of them.
Here’s the thing...you will have this machine for a minimum of 5 years, maybe longer. So why not start out with new.

choirlady the same thing has happened to many people, including me. Take it back and tell them to give you a new machine and call the prescribing doctor. They will also put pressure on the DME.

RE: Is it possible to get a new machine?
(double-take) Deleted spiel about the Airsense 10 Autoset and being gypped by DMEs, after I eventually noticed the pressure range of 6 to 15 in Choirlady's sidebar. Oops!
As you were.

But I'll add that the replacement machine should be, ideally (let's shoot for the moon here), not only an Airsense 10 Autoset, but an Airsense 10 Autoset for Her, which includes the second APAP algorithm in addition the first one. |
