RE: Mask TOO heavy! Help!
I'm not sure why health care professionals recommend full face masks right off the bat... if I were an RT, I'd only recommend a FFM if all other types of masks have proven useless. FFMs are leaky, bulky, uncomfortable, more expensive and usually end up raising your AHI.

Glad you switched to a nasal mask, Jane.

It feels so freaking heavy that I can't stand it and have to pull the mask off to feel like I'm breathing freely.

I get little leaks around my eyes, too. The mask I have is the petite as I have really small features, but if I make it too tight, it causes a headache and it's tearing up my nose (wearing a bandaid at night seems to be helping with that, though.

Hi JaneOnymous, welcome to Apnea Board!

Glad the nasal mask is working much better for you.

Concerning the Full-Face Mask, perhaps the leaks around the eyes were forcing you to tighten the straps too tight, so that after a few hours the mask felt terribly heavy.

If you still have the FFM it may be useful to use again if your nose ever gets totally clogged up. To make the FFM stop leaking around the eyes, I recommend the Gecko soft gel "nasal pad" nose protector.

It protects the nose from getting cut up by the mask, it seals leaks around the eyes, and makes for a leak-free mask without overly-tightened straps.

I think Respironics makes something similar, too, but I haven't tried it yet.

Walgreens drug stores sell the "Nasal Soft CPAP Cushion" by Sleep Care Technologies which is similar and probably more economical, but I haven't tried that yet, either.

Take care,
