[Equipment] Odor after the humidifier ran dry

Odor after the humidifier ran dry
Hi folks,

I would appreciate your advice on my experioence.
Once in a while I have run out of water in my Dreamstation's humidifier while sleeping & I woke up when there was an unpleasant smell.
This odor tends to remain even after I washed the mask & tubing in warm soapy water.
Is there a way I can eliminate this odor which I suspect is coming from this tubing or could it be from the humidifier?
Generally I am very clean & washed my mask with a dishwashing liquid daily & tubing regularly.

Thanks,

Maybe try wash, soak, rinse and repeat a few times to try and get the odor removed. You may consider some white vinegar if you can tolerate it. I'd also suggest making certain the water in the tub is to the full mark before sleeping.

Yup.....try some white vinegar and let it sit for an hour or two. I use it to remove mineral build-up and it works great.

If there is any visible deposit, maybe a mineral dissolver like CLR...just a tbsp., swish and let it sit for about ten minutes, and then rinse....and rinse again...and do it once more.

If the metal bottom looks clean, then mix a heaping tsp, not a tbsp., of baking SODA in about a cup of water, dissolve, and pour it into the reservoir.  Let it sit for at least an hour.  Rinse, repeat, and then refill.  You should now have an odour-free experience.  Smile

BTW, baking soda has other nifty uses.  If you have trails of insects such as sow bugs around your garage or basement walls, just pour a thin bead of the powder along those places.  Six weeks later, vacuum it all up and replace as needed.  Eco-friendly and very effective.

I agree about soaking the humidifier tub in some vinegar. I use a little bit of vinegar with some water (a 1:1 ratio, or even a 1:10 ratio - it's not scientific), and let it soak for a couple minutes. Sure enough, it rinses right out. And then I wash with dish soap.

I have this happen if I don't regularly clean the humidifier. You need to scrub the humidifier tub with soap and water because you will have a biofilm build up. This includes all areas inside the tub (bottom, sides, top and piping).

This biofilm stinks when it is dried out and the stink contaminates the hose, filter and mask. My hose and mask normally clear out after a night of use but washing them is also a good idea.
