PERFECT SCORE
Finally got myself a chin strap - but don't really like it - I wake up with a dry mouth and lips, so not sure if I'm still trying to force it open, any how, woke up this morning and did my usual thing of checking my AHI first 0.0!! Have been extremely close with an almost constant 0.2 but finally hit the jackpot wooo hoooDancing

Hi weeble, CONGRATS! on your score. I don't have the problem with dry lips but I know what you mean about your chinstrap, I have a love-hate relationship with mine. It helps me but it also gets in my way, too, anyway, CONTINUED SUCCESS.!

Check your leak rate. That'll tell you whether or not the chinstrap is stopping the mouth-leaking.

Good thinking batman, just checked and nope, the chin strap is not stopping the leaking - took a look at previous days without the chin strap and the leaks were less!! Will have to play around with it but it's quite tight now as it is.

There's supposed to be some leak. We call it the intentional leak. It depends on the mask and the pressure but it's on the order of 30 L/min.

Anything greater than that is the unintentional leak rate. The unintentional leak rate should not be greater than about 35 L/min for your machine.

If your leak rate is still too high even with the chinstrap then that indicates you have a mask leak.

If your leak rate is not too high and you notice no significant decrease in leak rate at any time when you wear your chinstrap that's an indication that you don't need the chinstrap.

RE: PERFECT SCORE
AHI=0.00 is where we should all be aiming; factually any AHI under 5 is considered acceptable (but not by me).

Also, for your consideration, you have made a great stride towards 'the golden bullet', but AHI is not the whole story. You really need some more information input.... for example, what is your SpO2 through the night? If that falls off below 90% by definition you are in respiratory distress and need to address the low Sp02 dips.

For my part? Once I have reached AHI=1 or less regularly and fixed my deep dips in SpO2 during REM sleep by infusing some O2 (3-4L/M) that is diluted by the room air being pushed, I went for another sleep study. It was pretty good but not perfect.

It takes time to get used to all the changes and sleep solidly through the night.

I'm not a chinstrap fan although I confess to owning more than one. Waking up with a dry mouth and lips generally means that there is air escaping through that orifice and you need to keep an eye on your leak rate relative to the leak rate specified for your mask generally.

You have reached the zenith of the first step in resolving sleep apnea and are to be congratulated for persistence. It is not an easy path to follow.
