[Equipment] Parts for Resmed S9

Parts for Resmed S9
Hello all! Though I've been a sleep Apnea patient for over 20 years, this is my very first post as a rookie member. At 62, I treasure the term "rookie" wherever I can get away with using it. I'm on my 5th machine though one is a small non-humidified traveler which I've pressed into full time service since my S9 stopped working.  I'm starting tonight with a new Dream Station and since I'm very handy with electronics, computer building and electric motors, and have the required tools, I thought I'd give rebuilding it a try. It was a marvelous machine, and even gave me a years notice that the motor had outlived its serviceable  life until it just stopped working. And so, my turbo charged friends, without any dubious queries about specific parts suppliers which may restrict the moderators' micro filters, I ask for guidance in my quest as a proud believer in everyone's right to repair. May you always breathe easy with whatever your turbo boost may be!   -Pete-

Even though California is pushing a "right to repair" law (Senate Bill S.B. 800) most medical device manufacturers decline to provide parts to users under their claim that FDA-regulated devices should only be repaired by manufacturer-certified repair stations and personnel. So, due to the lack of replacement parts, your best bet might be to privately purchase a device with failed electronics and then swap motors -- although you may not be able to reset the software-based hours counter and nobody is saying anything about a software limitation that simply renders the device inoperable (unlikely due to stories of long-term usage) after reaching a setpoint.

Best of luck.

What srlevine1 said.  And though you don't list your location in your profile, I expect you live in a large metropolitan area – S9s can occasionally be found on Craigslist, and sometimes at such affordable prices that it would make you buy several.

However, this is a dangerous area; it's likely that you will find a fully-functional machine and be inclined to buy it – then you wouldn't tear it down for the motor, right?  In fact, you might become so enamored of it that you developed the same degree of attachment to the new puppy as to the old one…  Dangerous waters, my friend!

Supplier #27 is a good repair facility and it's possible they might have a motor they would sell. Otherwise, The Craigslist approach is appealing, and remember you can pull the motor from one of the lower models and install it in an Autoset. Same motor, but the controller is on the main board.
