Yes Trish, I have a fairly new CPAP but I used this Bipap for a few years and it quit. I want a back up machine since I work and live away from home and I would like to have a unit to leave at home and where I work. I want to check for any loose connections or anomalies that I may can fix before shipping it off to someone to tell me it is too expensive to fix. I bought a set of slotted screwdrivers but none of them fit the screws on this unit. Thought someone may know since this unit was widely distributed in it day.
There is a YouTube showing how to put the top back on the unit but they do not put the screws back on the video nor say you will need this size screwdriver to finish the assembly.

Hi charlesr, Oh, I see, I don't know what size screwdriver you will need but I'm sure someone else who has that particular machine will be able to help you soon.
Good luck and hopefully you can fix it yourself.

Hi,

It's a fairly small Torx, perhaps T4 or T6. Home depot has a multi-pack of 6 sizes for $5.99, and I suspect Ace, Lowes, Autozone, O'reilly's etc will have something similar for likely more money. I think the 6 pack will have the size you need.

(torx is a 5 sided head that was developed in the automotive field for machine assembly, and also because it was felt that it would be more secure to use a head nobody on the street would have. 20 years on, most people who do their own car maintenance have at least a small selection.) I'm sure Respironics figured most people couldn't open it.

RE: Respironics Bipap M Series
gonesouth I should have already answered my own inquiry.
I removed my unit from the humidifier and carried it in the hardware
store and found the style you are naming. The actual sizes needed
are T10 to open the three screws on the unit and a T8 to remove
the filter holder to expose one screw.
I didn't find anything obvious causing the trouble so I closed it and
will send it in for repair soon. Before I do I'm going to ask the forum
if they have seen all the blue lights flashing when plugged in then
they go out for a few seconds, flash again, stop again, flash again
then the screen says "service required." If that means it is totally
gone or expensive I'll forget it because this is a backup machine.

Thanks again for your correct answer.

Hey Trish you are correct also. Someone did reply with information.
I had already found what I needed but to know the forum works is
exciting.

Hi charlesr,
I think when you get the "Service Required" message on the screen, you need to send it in for repair.
Hopefully you can get your backup machine to work again.

Glad i could help. Sorry i was late to the party.

The flashing lights are normal, but I've never seen the service required message.
